I only skimmed the article and I know that it's not a case of 'says he's brave enough to jump from the edge of space but is afraid of being in a tight suit'.

That's where the suit became an issue: It was a symbol of his not having complete control of the situation. ... He'd become too focused on the suit, not the goal he hoped to reach wearing it.
The suit scares him. It's even in the title.
How Claustrophobia Almost Grounded Supersonic Skydiver
If this isn't the case, what is it then?
That and Earth's gravity doesn't just stop at a certain point. To get far enough away from the Earth where the gravity would be lessened to an almost 0 number you would have to go out way past the Moon. 15-20 times further out than the Moon actually.
Indeed. Earth's sphere of gravitational influence extends to 925,000 km altitude before the Sun's gravity becomes dominant. For reference, the Moon orbits between 362,000 km and 406,000 km. If you are within that sphere, and you don't have enough forward momentum to orbit the planet, you will fall to it's surface.
I like how they show him going from 0-690mph in like 6 seconds. He's not jumping into Jupiter is he?
It won't bother him as much when he's actually doing it, I think. Once it sets in that it's inevitable it somehow becomes easier to handle I'd expect.
Oh the irony.

I would love to do that it looks like it would be so cool but i would probably shit myself thinking about what could go wrong/ HOLY FUCK IM SO HIGH UP and then freeze and cant pull the string
I'm jealous. Not of crippling claustrophobia, but the supersonic skydiving part.
Eh, at least some barrel rolling and "WOOOO-HOOOS" would be nice. It's not like the entire fall is going to be at over mach 1.
He did a few flips. While going 1170km/h
fucking redbull
