• Flight attendant to black female doctor: ‘We’re looking for actual physicians’
This is unrelated to this specific case, but I think it'd be a good idea to have doctors employed on flights, much like the air marshals. It sounds like there could be liability issues if the flight staff lets anyone who claims to be a doctor make decisions.
I'd sooner replace the pointless air marshal with a doc. You're infinitely more likely to need the latter.
The thing that gets me is how many people who aren't doctors or nurses reply to calls like this on airplanes? I mean, to ask for credentials implies you get imposters trying to pretend to be medical professionals all the time, enough that you have started to ask for credentials. I doubt this flight attendant has ever had that happen. So this makes me believe racism and probably sexism was behind this. The flight attendant simply did not want this black woman to get involved, that's pretty clear. Gee I wonder why?

If she did what you say, she was following policy.
I can also see why it would be dangerous for her to just get up and proceed to the unresponsive passenger - Any sort of fray and they will slap you on the no-fly list.
The flight attendant's attitude was kinda gross but assuming it's racism is, in my opinion, jumping the gun.
I seriously doubt it's intentional racism, but more likely an effect of implicit biases. Humans are very susceptible to associating and generalizing people together, even if we don't realize it, we do it subconsciously. The unfortunate reality is that blacks are seen as less likely to receive education, and female doctors are not as well highly regarded as male doctors by society. Then you throw in a flight to Detroit, a very poor city that you'd assume doesn't have the kind of money to support sending someone to medical school, and it's pretty easy to see why this could happen even unintentionally.
Also shes a bit pretty.
Was it necessary for you to say this?
Seriously? You are why the bad reading rating needs to come back.
maybe read the actual facebook post the doctor made? oh snap!!!
I'd sooner replace the pointless air marshal with a doc. You're infinitely more likely to need the latter.
A doc is far more expensive to keep. An option would be to have medical control at an airport, and then to have a paramedic on each craft, which would be cheaper, but still be able to do most crucial things.
My hand went through my face from my facepalm of this. Also shes a bit pretty.
Was this necessary? [editline]v[/editline] Ninja'd by fruxodaily.
Delta has already said that this is what their policy is. If she did what you say, she was following policy.
In that case a request for medical professionals with credentials would have been all it takes. Either she has them or she doesn't. It sucks that they asked for help, then when it's offered they bring up a condition for that help. It does make it seem less about racism or sexism and more about the flight attendant just being an ass. All it would have taken is a simple "Sorry doctor, but our policy..." and that the end of it. Snide remarks aren't needed, but aholes can't resist making them.
my bullshit alarm is ringing for some reason when i read just the blurb it sounded believable, but the story in whole as told by Tamika sounds suspiciously exaggerated for dramatic effect. Delta claims three medical professionals made themselves known and only one of them had documentation, and that is the doctor who was allowed to assist. Waiting to see how this develops, racial discrimination is a hot button topic guaranteed to go viral in recent times.
thought something like this might come out in the wash:
It was pretty obvious, still, fuck that attention whore.
Sometime after takeoff, a man two rows in front of her suddenly became unresponsive, she said, and flight attendants called for help. ... (Please remember this man is still in need of help and she is blocking my row from even standing up while Bombarding me with questions).
Doesn't this count as possible manslaugher is some kind of way? or is that a wrongly placed term here? I mean, the dude did eventually wake up. If he died would it be manslaugher? how stupid can someone get. This is unacceptable on every level and I hope this woman finds it very, VERY hard to get a job, but I doubt it'll be that hard for her
thought something like this might come out in the wash:
I'm ready to believe that things didn't go down the way they supposedly did - but an anonymous facebook post? At the very least I'd like some proof of them actually being on the flight.
You bet there is what?
Some proof of people actually on the flight seeing the whole thing go down... those people exist and i hope they come forward.
If she lied I hope she gets sued for defamation of character. Shit like this only makes stuff worse and does nothing but drive people away from listening to actually real claims.
