Reddit mods are censoring dozens of words from r/technology posts
80 replies, posted
They started mass deleting anything referring to Tesla (the automobiles) a few weeks ago, claiming that it's "not tech related". You know, some of the most modern pieces of applied technology out there, the electric car with a whole load of computers inside, batteries made using modern technology and all that?
They did this quietly, banning anyone who called them out on it - some people on /r/tesla who posted in a thread wondering why were banned from /r/technology for "inciting raiding" or something similar, same for a few who pmed one or two of the /r/technology mods. I'm not normally one to call paid shills, but let's just say that it would be lucrative to be able to moderate a fairly large community in such a way, especially if pushing an agenda. Sounds a bit conspiracy-ish, but y'know.

Subway thing? Please, tell me more.

I'm happy you find proper naming conventions hilarious.

You know, it's really starting to piss me off, with guys like you saying reddit is indeed a shithole of the Internet while when you say "stay classy, Facepunch", everybody tells you how fucking stupid you are for making hivemind out of FP
but if you really insist?
Subway thing? Please, tell me more.
facepunch guys took hentai photos and replaced big dicks on it with subway sandwiches, hilarity ensued when girls started lustly licking and biting subway sandwiches; it all got reposted on subway's facebook wall.
They are doing this for a good reason though. For most of the times, threads posted with these keywords in the titles are usually articles that are extremely low in quality and are heavily sensationalized/editorial, serving nothing more as a room for circlejerking. They're only doing it to weed out the shitposts from the sub, which is a reasonable thing to do.

this is a great example of the low hanging fruit, and besides most of them are rust kiddies, not proper FPers. If you want to actually make a applicable point to most of FP you'd need to pick things outta SH, FT, GD and OIFY

thats a group of people who come here because of Rust.
All what makes FP bad is its elitism.

Might as well eliminate the entire subreddit. That way it's literally impossible for any shitposting to go in there.
The key feature about reddit is being able to choose what stays in the frontpage and what doesn't. If it's a bad thread, people will downvote it and move on. So any kind of 'preemptive moderation' is silly.
So they have a bot to automatically do what Facepunch does manually? Big deal. Reddit's even worse at civil debates than we are, I'm not surprised they're sick of these topics that probably come up fucking constantly.
The problem is exactly that it's automated, in here mods check the threads and decide whether or not to close it if there's too much derail/flaming/shitposting going on(or more likely just ban the shitposters, news threads usually only get closed if the source is shit.)
Also I don't think we have ban-on-sight words unless they're racist/homophobic/etc and even then the mods take context into account, something an automated bot can't do.
At least our mods do their job instead of being lazy asses like this.

Complaining about FP's elitism while calling reddit a shit hole using FP.
[editline];[/editline]
not to mention the constant stream of shitposters we're getting recently
Recently? It's pretty much always been like that. Hell, thisispain managed to get perma'd twice doing it.
I really don't think so. With reddit, you tend to get exactly the content you look for. It's not like a social media site where you follow individual people who might just one day make a 3,000 word rant about shit you don't fucking care about.
Reddit is a massive hugbox circlejerk where anyone who dares to commit the crime of disagreeing with the majority gets downboated to oblivion and their posts hidden. The mods take that ideology to the extreme by turning threads into barren graveyards of deleted posts just because they don't like them. Even if you find some obscure subreddit that isn't completely awful the hugbox circlejerk thing is always present at some level because the whole site is designed around it.
Given redditors' frequent complaints about overzealous moderators
Weird, I always felt like one of the reasons larger subreddits were terrible was because of lazy and ineffective moderation.

I can literally take this exact post and change every "reddit" to "facepunch" and your claim would still hold, if not better.
From my observations of both Reddit and FP, reddit in general is a much tolerant place for controversal opinions as long as you have good reasons backing it up and isn't being retarded about it (assuming you're not posting it in a very obvious circlejerking sub like r/atheism). This certainly isn't the case with Facepunch at all.
http://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/

The funny part is that there are way worse subreddits than r/atheism, it's just the go to punching bag ever since that one video.

FP doesn't nuke your posts for being unpopular or controversial. You can box a post all you want but it's not going anywhere unless it's blatant shitposting. Shit even then the post doesn't get deleted, just a user ban. The only time I've seen posts deleted on FP is when it's spam.
FP doesn't nuke your posts for being unpopular or controversial.
lol what are you talking about? Threads starts shitfest on FP all the time because people have controversial opinions and they all end up being DDT'd/locked and sometime along with bans.
lol what are you talking about? Threads starts shitfest on FP all the time because people have controversial opinions and they all end up being DDT'd/locked and sometime along with bans.
Threads get DDT'd/locked with bans because they turn into shitfests, not because of the original topic.
Everyone knows that reddit are a bunch of one-sided fags with an agenda. Unless you see it for yourself, be prepared to find out that your information was either deliberately partial or spoofed in some way. Fags.

Your elitism is what separates you from your cortex
as if our forum is any better lol
Well I mean you get banned for being a continual dumbass here so yeah
Your elitism is what separates you from your cortex
No, that would be my skull.

Individual posts don't get thrown down the page due to a default setting that ranks posts based on votes.
Imagine SH if the amount of agrees you had indicated where your thread was positioned. That would be awful. Any unpopular or controversial opinion that happens to be well-supported with good argument would be disagree/dumb spammed to the bottom of page 8.
Threads get DDT'd/locked with bans because they turn into shitfests, not because of the original topic.
They turn into shitfests BECAUSE majority of the members doesn't want to hear controversial opinions and they just all end up calling the OP an idiot. In the end, the reason is still caused by the content of the original topic.

There is a difference between saying "yo your idea is dumb here is why" and "this guys idea challenges my worldview and that makes me scared and mad, I'm going to downvote it so no one else gets exposed to it"
They turn into shitfests BECAUSE majority of the members doesn't want to hear controversial opinions and they just all end up calling the OP an idiot. In the end, the reason is still caused by the content of the original topic.
And take a wild guess as to what's gonna happen.
All because of you.
Congratulations.

Even if you disagree with someone you can still have a good discussion. Shitfest threads get locked because they always end up being a pissing contest of "I'm right you're wrong fuck off". Mass Debate was added for this exact reason but nobody uses it because having to back up your arguments takes more effort than calling someone a fag and rating them dumb.
