From what I can understand, the current accepted theory for what happened to the birds is that a hailstorm must've hit quite a few flocks. Seems plausible to me. The fish... Maybe a species-specific parasite got the most of 'em? I don't know, but it is indeed odd that it's just one species effected by this, which in turn makes my Species-Specific Parasite theory all the more sensible. That's my 2 Cents.
