No, that's pretty much LinkedIn or Facebook. I don't get what you mean, Facebook is for private use or something?
I don't know what you use it for, but most people use Facebook for personal things. You join Facebook because your friends and family are on it and you want to talk with them.
You don't have to link them, though. It creates a separate Google+ account for your channel.
But why should it? Why would you need a second account, on another website, to use a feature that should only require one account (commenting on videos)?
Maybe Google+ will follow suit as well. You know, while we're shutting things that failed down and all that.
I keep intouch with most of my business contacts via Google+

Does it actually affect your YouTube experience, though? You have an extra account that you can use if you need to and people who want it can use it.
Only because you force feed it to people
didn't steam do the same thing
g+ is like an exploratory facebook
facebook you see shit from people you know
twitter you see shit from people you don't really know
g+ lets you see shit from people you could get to know

uploading avatars is slower because the server has to wait to reach g+
you can't reply to comments by viewing them through email, it just sends you to their g+
i'm constantly being told people have mentioned me or shared my work when in reality they are just commenting on something, and making me have unnecessary extra notifications
not to mention the ease of impersonating accounts, and don't even dare forget the fiasco of when they removed character limits of typing to implement g+ compatibility
i could even go on a 9 hour rant on how much i hate their policy of changing the layout every 6 months but they've had that problem since before g+ anyways

Is that really a big deal?

Works for me.

You can disable that in the Google+ notification settings.

Every website does that, and it's almost always for the better.

yes it does? something that i could do with my yt account alone now takes extra steps. it's unnecessary.
