Why the fuck are there "black" dance competitions, anyways? Didn't they abolish segregation in the 60's? STOP BEING FUCKING HYPOCRITES
It wasn't a black competition.
It wasn't a black competition.

Posters questioned everything from whether a white group should have been allowed to compete...
Everyone else seems to disagree. No doubt the competitors do as well.
If a white group was allowed to compete, it wasn't a "black competition." The question is one of cultural appropriation and how best to deal with it, not segregation.
Point them out.
Nevermind, I looked through the other posts and although some of them could be racist, they are all made jokingly, which I don't think is against the rules. That was the only serious racist comment.
I'l sum up my opinion which has probably already been said. It's a general dance competition, and a white team won. So of course the sore losers of the runner up black team spectacularly get a pity vote for tying first place. That's bullshit, the judges decided the white team was better, so there should be no sharing of splitting or duplication of the place or prize.
i am literally ANGRY with rage!!!
That would be telling a New Zealand white person they can't do any Maori haka or songs or anything at school where they usually have to because they're not Maori they're white even if the person enjoys it. Those people should be glad that those white people take an interest in their culture.
What do you mean by "those people"? :smug: I agree, though.
Those people as in the people who questioned whether someone of a different ethnicity should take part in a competition that is traditional for people of a certain ethnicity and culture.
Except for the fact that it wasn't racist. Unless referring to a different group of people as "them" is now racist.
It's implying all blacks think and feel the same about every issue, which is racist.
It's implying all blacks think and feel the same about every issue, which is racist.
At the very most, it's implying that all blacks disagreed with segregation.
Those people as in the people who questioned whether someone of a different ethnicity should take part in a competition that is traditional for people of a certain ethnicity and culture.
I was making a poorly-though-out joke playing on the phrase "you people" and it's connection to racism. Oh, those ungrateful blacks, so unappreciative of the totally not racist white race. So he simultaneously paints all black people as intolerant of whites and takes personal credit (by racial association) for the success of the civil rights movement. Yeah that's not racist at all

Yes, but that is neither here nor there.
I appreciate TH89 trying to abolish the racism in this thread, but it's starting to sound like he's agreeing with the judges' decision which was wrong.
Grrr this makes me rage. Football (soccer) was originally a white sport, why not stop Brazil from claiming the winning of the 2002 world cup?
I appreciate TH89 trying to abolish the racism in this thread, but it's starting to sound like he's agreeing with the judges' decision which was wrong.
The judges' decision was to award the prize to the white team. Coca-Cola's decision was to award the prize to the black team, because the whole reason they sponsored the competition was to try to get as many black people as possible to like Coca-Cola. It's despicable that businesses attempt to play race politics in order to increase their profit margins, but that's why this happened. It's not because of "political correctness" or some dumb shit.
White folk have the "Electric Slide" and the "Lawnmower." If whitey can step, what does that leave the negro community? I think the real criminals here are the people who practiced their routine for countless hours in order to compete in an event they held a genuine interest in without any regard to how the people who they outperformed would feel! How insensitive of them. Making them share the reward is ridiculous. Ethnicity has nothing to do with performance in a talent-based event. I don't care if they're white, black, red, yellow, or lizardman'd-- talent is talent. I plan to loudly complain about this indiscretion until somebody agrees with me.
Lol'd. David Icke

I think you guys miss the point of commercials. It's not pandering and it's not playing race politics. Someone in Coca Cola marketing must have concluded that a black, college age advertising push would help increase revenue(which is the point of a corporation selling products right?). So they eventually settle on sponsoring a stepping competition. Here's where life throws curves at people: They could have fixed it, one way or another, so that a black team wins no matter what. Who knows, maybe they tried. Or maybe they all ASSUMED a black team would win and gave the matter no more thought. OR maybe they figured no matter who won, all the teams would be happy to even have a high profile competition and the chance to win prize money. But I bet what happened after there was a controversy is some higher up at Coke said to the marketing people "You idiots, you said this plan was to help our image with black college students. Now look! Fix this shit or it's your ass!" Considering that they are the sponsors, they don't have to answer to anyone. If they want to give a co-winner award, no one can stop them. It wasn't a 'real' competition to start with, so it's not like they have cheapened the value of winning, haha. The only value of winning is the money you get, the only value of this sponsorship to Coke was the goodwill with the black community they'd get. I think the dummies are the ones treating this like the World Cup or Olympics, some serious competition to find out who is really the best at something. C'mon!
I think they're a bit mad because the white team didn't fit they're stereotype of dancing white folk.

Although the reward was a not insignificant scholarship, so it's not like it was totally meaningless.
White people not being allowed to participate in black activities = ok Black people not being allowed to participate in white activities = racist Quite frankly I think too many people play the race card now days.
White people not being allowed to participate in black activities = ok Black people not being allowed to participate in white activities = racist Quite frankly I think too many people play the race card now days.
But they were allowed to participate.
But they were allowed to participate.
I was referring to the people who questioned that
White people not being allowed to participate in black activities = ok Black people not being allowed to participate in white activities = racist Quite frankly I think too many people play the race card now days.
what's a white activity and what's a black activity? you're pretty thick but i'm gonna wait for TH89 to tell you why
Where's that Gif of the little kid yelling "That's racist?" Because that is what this article needs.
what's a white activity and what's a black activity? you're pretty thick but i'm gonna wait for TH89 to tell you why
I'm not saying I define activities by race, I'm refering to the people who see it as such. A "black activity" would be stomp the yard step team kinda deal. A "white activity" would be bingo or cribbage or something along those lines. I DO NOT think that way.
