They're buying the guns they didn't think they should have bought before, typically because they were saving for something else. Now they're buiyng it because it may be their last chance to for several years, or forever.
If they were saving for something else, it's probably more valuable to them. The perceived scarcity only creates real scarcity.
not if you live in an area where the ducks blot out the sun
Where do you live.
Technically, they could be fueling a collection via panic buying. You can't collect something you can't buy.
There's other reasons too.
I have friends of family in Wisconsin that pooled money and bought about 40,000 dollars in guns and gun accessories. Currently they estimate that it's worth about 80-90k, and going up fast. Admittedly, it's a decent number of people, but they stand to gain over 100k between them. It's just a question of when they cash out. Good money considering they spent about 15 hours making purchases.
what is the point in owning an automobile that goes more than 70mph?
you understand these things called collections exist where people own more than one of a given thing, yes?
Yes I need 1200 bullets for my collection.
Why suddenly buy right before the legislation?
take a wild guess
this is panic buying, not gun collecting
I'd call it both, but whatever you say
Yes I need 1200 bullets for my collection.
1200 is on the LOW end of someone who shoots recreationally
Why suddenly buy right before the legislation?
Couldn't they have bought it much earlier when they wanted to actually collect guns, instead of buying now when prices are rapidly inflating?
They may have been putting it off. Christmas bonuses are kicking in. Lots of reasons.
In Australia, all guns are illegial, so could someone explain to me the logical reasons of owning an assault rifle? Because frankly, I don't see the point.
If you reallllly wanted defense wouldn't you buy a pistol? Why would you need a gun that shoots 40 bullets in one mag...
I don't know where you get your info but all guns are NOT illegal in Australia. You could theoretically purchase any firearm that you could own in the US with the right paperwork here(good luck there though).

The only reason I need is because I enjoy shooting them at inanimate targets. That's all the reason I need to own an AK47. I don't care what things are like in Australia.
take a wild guess
Except buying right before only drives prices through the roof and generates fucktons of cash for the gun manufacturers.
Do people even need those guns. I doubt that most of the time they won't even use them, and just let them collect dust in the attic.
do ppl even nede these vidya gaems?????
Except buying right before only drives prices through the roof and generates fucktons of cash for the gun manufacturers.
uh were you alive after the 1992 AWB? better to pay $60 for a mag now than $120 for a grandfathered one after legislation
Don't even start this shit. Really don't the topic has been beat to death in a dozen other topics. Is there a logical reason to own anything you might have? Is it necessary to have the best and latest tvs, computers, consoles, etc. You surely don't need it to survive, so what is the point right? Its called freedom of choice, people like to be able to buy what they want when they want without the big boys up in government saying so. Most people who have a IQ higher then a potato know that this AWB is ineffective and stupid. Just because one country does it does not mean it fits another country.
Of all the great arguments you could have used, you had to pick the worse right?
I can't use a TV to shoot down my neighbor or go on a rampage at work. The fact assault rifles are comparable to the latest tv or computer to you boggles my mind.
Yes you are right people need assault rifles to recreate, normal pistols or hunting rifles will not allow them to shoot recreationally after a hard day in the office. Gotta blast some magazines in a few minutes to relax.
Point being: These arguments look really artificial and made up to non-gun-nuts.
Bah. Too think people can get assault weapons with just a small background check and waiting period in the US.
I have to go through training and a bunch of other things, before I write a written test for a license that I have to pay for to get, then actually have to go to a gunshop to buy the weapon. Where they do a criminal background check, my name goes down in the police database that I have a weapon stored in my house with a lock on the trigger AND in a locked safe box that is not penetrable by things.
Think this will stop the shootings?
nope
Yes you are right people need assault rifles to recreate, normal pistols will not allow them to shoot recreationally after a hard dayin the office.
"I don't need _____ so you don't need it either!!!!"

its ok your argument sounds the same to us
"I don't need _____ so you don't need it either!!!!"
Weapons aren't toys.

Someone who wants to continue owning their property =/= Gun Nut
"I don't need _____ so you don't need it either!!!!"
Your argument also works against itself.
Except buying right before only drives prices through the roof and generates fucktons of cash for the gun manufacturers.
So then it's a win win, people get the guns they want, and the people who sell them make money. Why are you faulting us for buying things we want before they (probably won't) get banned?
Someone who wants to continue owning their property =/= Gun Nut
Please don't generalize my words so you can argue against them.

dude do you know anything about guns at all or are you just talking completely out of your ass?
generally smart people research topics at least a little bit before opening their mouth about an issue. i can see from this post you have done absolutely no research on guns or gun death.
and this is coming from someone who has fired a gun twice in his life and hardly even gives a damn about the things most of the time.
If they were saving for something else, it's probably more valuable to them. The perceived scarcity only creates real scarcity.
Not really, I was saving up for a new PC build, monitor and sound system included before the re-election. Because prices always jump up during election season, I spent the money on a Sig Sauer SG-556 before prices inflated too badly. Neither hobby is more valuable than the other too me.
Weapons aren't toys.
never said they were?
sports cars aren't toys either, so why should you be able to own them?
I find it the most annoying how the only difference between this

and this

is magazine capacity yet only the latter would be considered for banning
Effective difference, that is. Both fire the same exact round at the exact same rate, semi-auto

Please enlighten me how a full-auto assault is better for "recreation" and sport than a sport rifle I really wanna learn.

The purpose of a weapon is to kill / injure, a sport car's purpose is speed / having fun.

You know what? Why do they even need pistols? Why don't we give them nerf guns instead?
Again, talking about a hobby you don't understand.

Assault weapons are not full auto ffs, full auto have been banned for a long time now
