Argument's credibility: Lost
Oh, was that because I said "like, a hundred years ago" instead of "like, two hundred and twenty years ago"? Wow, great counter argument you got there, mate. Sorry for overestimating when the second amendment was written, being from a part of the UK where such a thing wasn't actually widely spoken about :v: Now, about that ~actual argument~ I put forward? :)

Sorry for overestimating when the second amendment was written, being from a part of the UK where such a thing wasn't actually widely spoken about :v:
Sure, but the 2nd Amendment has directly led to a culture that values firearms in the hands of its citizens. So yes, it matters.
Great, but please define it. You made a mocking joke to make a point, now I want you to define your own statement. So please, define what an assault weapon is.
No, the joke is a work of art in itself and I'm very proud of it and I am not stupid enough to waltz into your home territory, I'd rather just sit here and throw little harmless, gayly coloured sticks in your direction and watch you pick them up and rage because you want me to throw really heavy and dangerous stones so you can throw them back. Thanks but no and I still dislike people owning guns because 50% of the gun owners are dumber than your average gun owner and that's a very scary thought to me and most people I live and work with.
Right now I am thinking about people feeling cool while posing with big guns and that makes me a bit scared and a bit amused so I guess you are right but ask yourself the question: Did you really win the battle when the enemies just turned around and went to bed?
Your debate skills leave much to be desired
Thanks but no and I still dislike people owning guns because 50% of the gun owners are dumber than your average gun owner and that's a very scary thought to me and most people I live and work with.
50% of the population is dumber than the other half. Statistics 101.
Thanks but no and I still dislike people owning guns because 50% of the gun owners are dumber than your average gun owner and that's a very scary thought to me and most people I live and work with.
Cool generalization
I still don't understand why civilians need Assault Rifles.
You cant even hunt with an ar-15 here in georgia. Its considered inhumane because it is such a small caliber that it takes 2-3 shots to kill a deer most of the time.
AR-10
Thanks but no and I still dislike people owning guns because 50% of the gun owners are dumber than your average gun owner and that's a very scary thought to me and most people I live and work with.
it's generally pretty easy to scare stupid people so i'm not all that surprised.
Your debate skills leave much to be desired
That's why I have a job in science, I rarely need to debate there, this is just a forum and I am worst gold member and I dislike people owning guns because 50% of the gun owners are.....
And you're really bad at statistics, it's 50% of gun owners are dumber than your median gun owner. And if the distribution is skewed left, then that means statistically speaking there are far more people above the average than below it, because the median would be above the average.
I still don't understand why civilians need Assault Rifles.
It's a hobby. Not really a need. Unless you mean "assault rifle" as in automatic rifle, 'cause those are banned.
it's generally pretty easy to scare stupid people so i'm not all that surprised.
Oh wow that really hurt. Wait what do you need the guns for again? Second amendment and all?
That's why I have a job in science, I rarely need to debate there, this is just a forum and I am worst gold member and I dislike people owning guns because 50% of the gun owners are.....
This makes no sense, if you have a job in science you will naturally encounter debates over issues because without clashing discourses new ideas can't be discovered.
I still don't understand why civilians need Assault Rifles.
They don't. Assault weapons are semi-auto weapons that look like their military counterpart but don't have full-auto or burst fire capability. The only difference between them and your traditional hunting rifle is look and magazine size, and only look in some cases. Assault rifles are full-auto and practically impossible to get if you are civilian.
I still don't understand why civilians need Assault Rifles.
Except there are barely any assault rifles at all, 10/10 reading the thread
I still don't understand why civilians need Assault Rifles.
"Assault rifiles" are very hard and expensive to buy. The rifle in the OP is just a rifle. I can make my Ruger 10/22 look like an AR-15, with a stock, a grip, and a barrel shroud, but that doesn't mean it's an Assault rifle.
That's why I have a job in science, I rarely need to debate there, this is just a forum and I am worst gold member and I dislike people owning guns because 50% of the gun owners are.....
Actually that's not even a true statistic, unless you assume every gun owner has a different level of responsibility, space out evenly. And that's obviously not true, seeing as 99.8 percent of guns are never even used in crimes.
Oh wow that really hurt. Wait what do you need the guns for again? Second amendment and all?
same reason you need the internet
That's why I have a job in science, I rarely need to debate there
Then you don't actually have a "job in science"
Actually that's not even a true statistic, unless you assume every gun owner has a different level of responsibility, space out evenly. And that's obviously not true, seeing as 99.8 percent of guns are never even used in crimes.
Even worse is that he claims to work in science, a job that requires a pretty solid understanding of how statistics works. If he even took an introductory statistics course in college or dedicated statistics class in high school he would know this.
Sure, but the 2nd Amendment has directly led to a culture that values firearms in the hands of its citizens. So yes, it matters.
The 2nd amendment has been deliberately misinterpreted and misused to provide another method of leeching money from US citizens, not by respecting an inherent right bestowed upon the divine American citizen. How does that argument counter my original comment? When did I say anything about how much anything mattered to anything else? Was it when I literally guessed that the 2nd amendment was written a hundred years ago instead of longer ago, making it even more archaic and out of touch with a more world we currently live in?
Oh, was that because I said "like, a hundred years ago" instead of "like, two hundred and twenty years ago"? Wow, great counter argument you got there, mate. You can't safely detonate a nuclear weapon for recreation purposes, but you can fire a firearm safely. Comparing firearms as a hobby to nuclear weapons is beyond stupid, and silly. Your "~actual argument ~" is fucking stupid and you should be ashamed.
I still don't understand why civilians need Assault Rifles.
look at this -HIGHLY LETHAL WEAPON- originally designed to KILL we don't need it, we should ban it for the safety of everyone look at this fucking criminal scum and his murderous weapon! that thing he's holding was DESIGNED to kill other humans! if you look at the statistics behind them, they've been used in hundreds of wars and have killed tens of thousands of people! and that little shit is able to get his hands on one? unthinkable! we need to find this psychopath and eviscerate him where he stands the fuck is this shit? is this cunt about to throw a javelin? you might have noticed, that one looks stunningly similar to the pilums the romans used when they systematically murdered everyone around them! this lunatic not only owns such a dangerous weapon, but is actually trained to throw it as accurately as possible, and actually treats that as a form of entertainment! I've already alerted the Ministry of Love and they're assembling a hit squad as we speak
Okay then, that's great. And you're really bad at statistics, it's 50% of gun owners are dumber than your median gun owner.
No I just assumed Gaussian distribution, wasn't that obvious when I said "50% are dumber than the average gun owner" ?
No, it wasn't obvious, it was obvious you were just speaking out of your ass.
This makes no sense, if you have a job in science you will naturally encounter debates over issues because without clashing discourses new ideas can't be discovered.
Yeah but in a thesis defense, hard numbers and facts play a role, not "people need big guns for recreational purposes".
Yeah but in a thesis defense, hard numbers and facts play a role, not "people need big guns for recreational purposes".
And statistics show that most of the guns used in crime are pistols, not "assault weapons"
