I was afraid this turned into another Terry Schaivo scenario, glad I was wrong.
They can save a politician after she was shot in the head and parts of her brain were destroyed.
But they couldn't save my mom after her brain swelled due to an aneurysm.
It's a shame your mother died, but cerebral edema is far harder to combat than a bullet to the brain. When the brain swells to a larger size, it becomes much harder, and sometimes impossible for blood to flow through the brain, which means your brain is no longer getting oxygen. Once your brain stops getting oxygen and other fluids, your brain can shut down which results in the rapid death of brain cells, and can put you into a coma or other vegetative state. As for a bullet to the brain? Well the bullet can hit non vital brain functions and keep you alive, and at that point all you need to do is pull it out.

I know the Doctor explained this too me, I'm just happy that she went out painlessly and quick :smith:
The thread title was quite deceiving. I thought they were "pulling the plug" as it were.
