I am surprised that some vandals haven't sprayed over it yet.
It's actually interesting how a lot of these things tend to have staying power. Just lifted these two in Prague and they've been around for ages and ages.
And Prague tends to have a lot of vandals

I guess decent stuff is appreciated.
"typical shit" done by teenagers has as much artistic merit as anything Banksy does
you can't have it both ways, either all graffiti is art and deserves protection or none of it is
[editline]18th February 2013[/editline]
whats art without a little crime and transgression
To be honest the majority of grafity is just tags and almost nothing more. Though anything with even some artistic merit tends to be a lot rarer and usually shows up only on legal walls. Though it does pop up from time to time on illegals as well. And very often when it does, it's actually left to stay up.
do you not understand what subjectivity is?
Banksys tags are clever even though his political statements are often those of a typical teenager (fuck capitalism, fuck the police, fuck war).

Grafitti like this, no matter how well it's done doesn't have a meaning besides: hey I was here and check out how well I can mutilate letters.
It's kind of a shame stuff like this happens, banksy's stuff should stay where it's painted. Also it shouldn't matter if it's painted over, it may be nice graffiti, but it is still graffiti.

Also boasting, don't forget boasting. A lot of more traditional graff is just dumb kids (such as myself) just getting up stuff to prove that we can.
Does Banksy even exist?
Like nobody has actually seen the guy.
It is just an elaborate ruse maybe?
art doesn't need meaning behind it. It never has. It can still be a brilliant piece of artwork and just be the product of someone doodling in their maths class book.
[editline]20th February 2013[/editline]
and again, subjectivity comes into play. I think that's a really cool piece of art. i don't need a meaning behind it, it visually pleases me and that's enough.
He WANTS his art to be taken down. The only thing Banksy cares about is getting a message out there. When you saw any work by him, did it make you think? Did it make you think at all about if for a second? If it did then it's art. Art is there to make you dwell on something, to make you think about something. Banky intentionally chose the street art vandal style because he has a message to send the world might as well use the world as your canvas where the common folk walk past on a daily basis. By having it removed only further serves his purpose and gets the message out even further.
Banksy isn't tagging a wall so that it can be framed and hung over a millionaires mantle one day. Just like how his work is a mantle peice it isn't a mural. A mural commemorates something, Banksy's art typically serves to demonize something that is ever present in our modern era yet generally goes unnoticed.
He does a lot of art like that in addition to his various other "fun" works of art that don't serve a message but are simply there to look at. It's a hell of a lot better than seeing "KING" written out across the wall with cheap spray paint, dribbling down the side and hastily done.
If it weren't Banksy you wouldn't be giving a second thought to it being torn down. If Banksy should be considered an artist for his work then there are plenty of taggers that can equally be considered artists, with messages every bit as deep and meaningful as Banksy's pretty sophomoric themes.
It's like if anyone else does it, it's really pretty graffiti, but if Banksy does it, it's ~art~, and that is the worst kind of subjectivity.

Whoa, did not expect him to look so... stylish
Then again his works are boss so it kinda ties in.
