Oculus Rift has an advantage of 16,777,214 colours
I'm just waiting for the release version. Was very tempted to buy a dev kit but then I'd probably end up buying it twice :/
The dev kit (which is the only kit available atm) is $300
The consumer kit is going to be $200 - $300.
If you can afford a Wii U, you can buy an OR. The real question is, also like the Wii U, is it worth the purchase yet?
Curious, where'd you get that info?
Only promise I've seen about pricing is that it's <$1000
It's funny because the TF2 hat could probably be sold to cover the price of an actual Rift.

I'm only afraid to buy it because the technology is going to be progressing a lot in the next few years, now that it's out there. I'd hate to plop down 300 bucks on something that ends up being not only a novelty, but also obsolete.
I bought a Novint Falcon, and ended up not using it much because support was so rare (and buggy, like TF2 thinking healing is just negative damage) and the games that did support it not being worth bringing the thing out for. Hopefully this will see more support, but I'm going to wait for another generation of the device.
If Arma 3 gets support for this I'm sold, the rest of the games that support it will just be a bonus.
Man, I dunno, I'd much rather use it for either the Arma series or Left 4 Dead 2.
That or Portal 2, holy shit.
I hope the promotional hat is the Rift itself.

My dota2 mouse has a promo sword for a character in dota, its 50$ in the marketplace while the mouse is 55$ :v:.

I really want Chivalry to support OR, I mean sometimes when you get your head lobbed off, the camera remains in the head as it rolls down the hill. Now that would be disorienting to experience with the OR.
I really want an OR. I hadn't heard about it up til now, but I'm totally getting one now.
The hat's gonna look like arse in game, though.
I have the exact same keyboard and mouse as Joe Ludwig
I refuse to buy it unless they have an option to accurately depict the view of Demomen everywhere.
Which would be bad, with lazy left eyes increasing around the globe, but it'd be a nice thought.
Must've missed that.
I don't see it being referenced anywhere.

All I can find is "Oculus Rift themed hat".

It's on the Kickstarter page.

They should only let you wear it while you're using the Rift
Well I suppose if the Oculus flops and doesn't sell well, the promo hats will be very rare, a good reason to get one I suppose.
I NEED this for Mirror's Edge!
3D movies give me migraines.
well have fun with your 3D immersion i guess
This is full stereoscopic head tracking. It's essentially putting you inside the game. Instead of a screen acting like the visual portal of the world, you've got a pair of goggles instead.
Somebody please make a virtual boy model replacement
I am giddy with anticipation, I can't fucking wait until it is released.
Sort of glad this comes out after I start working again. I'll actually have money to buy this thing!
If it's what I expect it to be (and it looks really promising) I can see myself in it hours at a time.

Wikipedia.
Also, consumer version is definitely NOT going to be more expensive than a dev kit. You can pre-order your dev kit now, and it's $300. So there's no way the final product is going to be above $300.

Also I'm going to wait for some sort of YouTube overview of how it plays in TF2 before I consider buying one.
If it's good, I'm going to get one asap. Otherwise, no point.

so buying the entire rift kit is more worth it to you for a tf2 hat
can I ask what the most valuable hats are worth (ones that actually have been sold, not just plastered with ridiculous prices just to be special)

I know my Max's Severed Head is still worth over 100 dollars, and that's not even the most valuable item. Some unusuals have prices that would more than cover the Rift.
I will never understand hat fortress 2
The hat should be based off the consumer version instead of the barebones devkit.
At least I strongly assume they're going to make it look sexier than that.
[editline]editline[/editline]
Oh, they already made the model. They're propably too lazy to make a new one.

could be a devkit only version and consumer comes with a new one and make devkit a vintage or something
I'm personally waiting for the OR until it comes out for dwarf fortress

Uh I'm pretty sure the company isn't making money off dev kits, they are just trying to sell them at a price point to get them in as many dev's hands as possible. Which means thaat yes, a consumer version will be more expensive, because it'll actually be priced to make money and not to mention is pretty much guarunteed to have higher quality/higher res parts in it.
