So bitch back. That's what I'd do.
Whats the point?
What's the point of owning a fast car when the max speed on most highways is 55-70mph?
They're fun, and there've been two times a civilian's committed a crime with a legally owned full-auto so the ban on them is quite senseless and until it's repealed people are going to keep trying new ways to get around it.
One of those times was a murder committed by a law enforcement officer.
It's barrel length, not overall length, that matters when it comes to short barreled rifles. If the barrel length is 16.5"+ then it's legal. I'm assuming it's an M1A1 Carbine, those are perfectly legal, and many historic rifles are exempted from the law, like the C96 being a pistol with a stock/holster, and the Lebel Carbine, which has a barrel shorter than 16 inches.

pps 43
it must be short enough to be considered a pistol so the stock is always stuck up
and it cant be full auto of course
it also doesnt qualify for c&r
when will a president come along that rids us of this trash

Not always, if the overall length is under 26" then it's still an SBR if it has a shoulder stock.
And what's worse is that some places determine overall length with the stock closed, so an AK underfolder is an SBR in Michigan.
rip Beretta 92fs is an SBR last I checked :C
Before anyone flips their shit and starts a massive debacle, let me remind people that the registration process to own one of the damned things is past the six months of work mark.
And that for you have a home made automatic takes under an hour. (I.e. the 'criminal' element.)
This isn't a blanket "ERRYONE SHOULD HAVE AN AUTOMATIC IN THEIR CLOSET" argument, but being unable to persue a fucking hobby because of some nitwit's outdated legisltation sort of doesn't make sense anymore. Especially not given how you can spend around $300, head down south, spend another $300, and then own a damned fully automatic AR.
My grandfather owns an MG42 that he brought back from the second world war. We shot watermelons with it when I was younger. Great memories.

Ah okay, I forgot there are quite a few semi-auto PPS-43's in the US. At the very least they do make neat semi-auto pistols.
Automatic weapons are terrible for crimes because of how inaccurate they are. In the military, soldiers usually use single-fire mode because it's much more accurate to shoot one bullet at a time. The only use an automatic weapon has would be during a mass murder spree, but the perpetrator would run out of ammo very fast unless they brought a lot of ammo. The overall kill count would probably be lower than with a semi-automatic, but there would be a lot more damage.
At least you have that possibility, here they're just illegal. Why? Knowing the dumbass logic used for the rest of our laws it's probably so that "Gangbangers won't be able to shoot each other in the middle of the street and nobody will hear it."
Nah, the official reasoning was something along the lines of: ''We don't want them poachers illegally hunting them moose without someone hearing it eh!''

Just imagine the gun room bill gates could own if he wanted to...
Repeal the NFA, It's fucking worthless. It serves no actual point anymore, it's outdated.
By the way, to anyone thinking automatics will cause more problems
consider this: An automatic ANYTHING has a minimum price tag of $15,000, and a maximum price tag of $500,000+. No criminal or psychopath would even bother, it's just too costly for them to even consider this path.
On top of that, most criminals buy cheap handguns because they're literally disposable. They toss the things in the garbage once they've committed a crime.
I've seen MP40s go for about 10k.
Some Macs, Stens, etc, going for even less. In the 5k mark.

Any automatic worth buying is most likely over $15,000. The only reason someone would want a full auto Mac-10 is to say they have a full auto Mac-10. They are garbage guns.
On the Rock Island Auction, a transferable FG-42 went for $299,000. The limited amount of full autos causes the price to skyrocket.

It didn't serve a point when it was made since the machine guns that were used were actually stolen from the military and police, not purchased, if I'm not mistaken the Thompson from one of those shootings was recently returned to it's original department.
Only reason it wasn't heavily opposed was because back then nobody had the money to feed a machine gun on top of there being a rifleman's culture where making each shot count was the rule of the day, machine guns were looked upon as a waste of money and ammunition so to shooters of the 1920s it was very much a case of "And nothing of value was lost" to them.
Basically anything that wasn't a rifle of some sort wasn't taken seriously as a hunting or self defense weapon (With the obvious exception of pistols and revolvers for self defense). Hell, bows didn't see their second coming until the 1970s.

These are historical relics, of course they cost a ton of money. Especially the FG-42, that thing was a rare piece even when it was fielded.
If you want an idea on some prices, enjoy this. These are bids for the most part so not final price either. http://www.gunbroker.com/Machine-Guns/BI.aspx
