maybe they should learn about my meat and toys ey?
You start doing it and I'll start learning.
Or people could just learn more about other cultures and realise not everyone is trying to kill them.
I'm sorry but religious fundamentalism is the cause of most wars and killings.
Ok, let's go over it again. I don't care what you believe in (fairies, flying unicorns, god, etc) or do as long as you keep it to yourself. You can do whatever the fuck you want in private but in a public place you respect majority's wish and i assure you nobody else on that plane wanted to see/hear the 'ritual'.
pff fuck the majority all the majority has done is enslave the minority, why should i respect their wish if they cannot respect mine seriously fuck majority i'd rather we all be unique individuals with differences than mindless peons coloured gray assigned numbers that live in silence [editline]13th March 2011[/editline]
I'm sorry but religious fundamentalism is the cause of most wars and killings.
you are naive and ignorant of history if you actually believe that
on the flight back from LAX to Melbourne Australia, there was a group of 30 Orthodox Jews on my flight. They randomly started to stand up and pray in the middle of the flight. everyone was scared. i laughed. also israelis are weird to fly with. they clap when the pilot lands the plane. awks.
you are naive and ignorant of history if you actually believe that
How so? Religious fundamentalism and greed are pretty much the only causes of wars.
How so? Religious fundamentalism and greed are pretty much the only causes of wars.
religious fundamentalism is the result, not the cause
Crusades, taiping rebellion, current issues in the middle east and israel?

Although it's not just israelis that do that, even when I fly from england to majorca people clap. [editline]14th March 2011[/editline]
Crusades, taiping rebellion, current issues in the middle east and israel?
That's not exactly most wars
That's not exactly most wars
The other half is covered by greed.
Crusades, taiping rebellion, current issues in the middle east and israel?
the crusades were an attempt for the catholic church to regain controls over regions it has lost. religion was needed to control the people into doing it but don't pretend as if without it they wouldn't have done it anyway. the taiping rebellion is an obvious rebellion against an oppressive society but because the undertone was christanity you deemed it as "bad". the current issues in the middle east? come the fuck on, religion has absolutely nothing to fucking do with it
The other half is covered by greed.
that wasn't even half
If you're flying to israel then they clap because it's a miracle the plane landed without being shot down.
Haha, only one El Al / Israeli flight has ever been shot down. anyway when getting to Israel from Asia, they take a long detour just incase. Just clapping is weird. Flying is generally safer than driving.
Although it's not just israelis that do that, even when I fly from england to majorca people clap.
It's a thing that the Israelis and Spanish do haha only them really. Only time I've ever heard people clap when landing is on an El Al flight and on an American flight after we had to quickly descend for an emergency landing.

I used to be. I can't imagine what an emergency landing would be like.
I can't imagine what an emergency landing would be like.
Very fast, loud, and lots of binging and warning noises because we were 2 rows from the cockpit. Well deserved of a clap.
Very fast, loud, and lots of binging and warning noises because we were 2 rows from the cockpit. Well deserved of a clap.
what was the landing for?
what was the landing for?
A smoke detector went off in the lavatory (and then the main cabin), and then other warnings due to the speed / altitude we were at / fast descent.
A smoke detector went off in the lavatory (and then the main cabin), and then other warnings due to the speed / altitude we were at / fast descent.
So the plane wasn't in any real danger before they decided to start landing?
So the plane wasn't in any real danger before they decided to start landing?
It was a better safe than sorry - don't think there was anything wrong. Alarms started ringing in the cockpit about 15 seconds after take-off. But when you can hear the alarms from where you are sitting, and the crew says, we're going to have to go back because of an "emergency" (not told what it was until we landed), you shit your dacks.

That soon after takeoff must be so scary.
Well, we are going off topic, so i'm going to post one last time and then i'm out of here. People get scared of people who are different; as simple as that. I, however, see religious people as naive people who cannot accept logic or reasoning (i'm not saying people who believe in god are stupid, i'm talking about super orthodox fundamentalist of any religion here). It's very understandable to think, a person who believes strapping boxes to himself and praying loudly to an imaginary fellow in the skies is very simple minded and is capable of doing very irrational things including (but not limited to) bringing down an airplane to appease the said imaginary fellow.

Zealots are extremist fundamentals, and there's a big difference between the devoutly religious and extremist. A huge gap.
I guess you can say i'm anti-religion.
I guess you can say i'm anti-religion.
Then you're against the right of people to believe what they wish to believe. I'm an atheist, but totally cool with religion - it only becomes a problem when religious individuals presume to force their beliefs and morals on others. Which, as I hope you've noticed, does not happen all the time.
well i'm glad to see that being anti-religion has made you hostile and inconsiderate of other people's feelings and emotions. what an example

But when i'm on a plane and somebody is praying loudly, that's an invasion of my personal space and privacy and i do not want to hear that shit. Also, some background info here. I'm not some random white kid living in the suburbs, listening to metal music and hating on religion. I was born in iran to a jewish father and a muslim mother (both secular though) and moved to Canada when i was 12 years old. I have been to Israel (for vacation, lol) and more than 30 other countries and i have seen and been in contact with lots of religious devotees (both muslim and jewish) and let me tell you, it's not pretty and nothing good ever comes out of religion.
I guess you can say i'm anti-religion.
Well gee I wouldn't have noticed that if you hadn't pointed it out.
Oh boy.
Religions might have saved people from eating each other a few thousand years ago but they have no place in the modern society. What's the message of all religions? Be good. That's it. You don't need a religion to be good.
