Airline Cockpit locked down while Orthodox Jews perform elaborate ritual

I'm sorry, but how has a thread where a bunch of jews dancing around gotten to 3 pages?
Religion really should not be the issue here.
From the crew's perspective, they were seeing something that looked suspicious. This is grounds enough to divert the plane. Planes have been prevented from takeoff for much milder reasons, like passengers sending coded notes to the captain, for example:

The Captain was probably informed that some men had strapped 'boxes' to themselves and had begun some strange ritual. As the crew are responsible for the lives of their passengers, the Captain had to make a decision, knowing that if it was a threat, he would bear the consequences. There was nothing wrong with erring on the side of caution.

better safe than sorry.
The Orthodox Jews should have let a member of the crew know that they're going to pray and how it would look like.
I consider it a case of. "If it's my time, it's my time. If not, well then." If a plane is going down there is nothing I can do to stop it as a passenger.
Religions might have saved people from eating each other a few thousand years ago but they have no place in the modern society. What's the message of all religions? Be good. That's it. You don't need a religion to be good.
Congratulations. You're one of the new generation of ignorant bigots. First the blacks got oppressed, then the homosexuals, next everyone who differs from the ''master atheist, liberal math/science oriented person''.

You never heard about the revolt onboard Flight 93?
Not what i said. You can believe in/do whatever you want. But when i'm on a plane and somebody is praying loudly, that's an invasion of my personal space and privacy and i do not want to hear that shit.
Also, some background info here. I'm not some random white kid living in the suburbs, listening to metal music and hating on religion. I was born in iran to a jewish father and a muslim mother (both secular though) and moved to Canada when i was 12 years old. I have been to Israel (for vacation, lol) and more than 30 other countries and i have seen and been in contact with lots of religious devotees (both muslim and jewish) and let me tell you, it's not pretty and nothing good ever comes out of religion.
Someone's invading your personal space if they get up in your face. They're invading your privacy if they go through your stuff without permission. You're spouting bullshit. Yeah, I was born in India and grew up in the Middle-East. I lived in Saudi Arabia, so I have a reason to hate all religious people too. But I don't.

Doesn't this just kind of show that, though its great to be tolerant of religion, there are many times and places where it is very impracticable to be tolerant. Is it really worth all this just because some jews wanted to pray on a plane? If it's enough of a risk to cause this reaction then these practices should be banned outright on airlines and in other similar situations (trains etc). I'm pro religious freedoms, but there comes a point where it isn't practical to tolerate total freedom.
Jews have to pray 3 times during the day-at the morning, in the evening and at noon.
Probably explains it.
They still should have explained to a staff member what the fuck they were doing, though.
Isn't this like a common thing that Orthodox Jews do on plane rides? It's happened to me twice and everyone gets annoyed by it.
I thought cockpits were always sealed during flight.

actually to be honest that is still a minority, and the religious people are still not oppressed ever, stop whining.
religious people, especially christians, are always going on about the "anti-christian society" and how they are looked down on and oppressed and how it is so weird to be christian in this day and age, when they are really the majority.
[editline]14th March 2011[/editline]
oppression/minority complexes are the worst, there are still black people and women with them it is ridiculous
Avatar and title do not fit.
It does.
You have have to realize they are not all the same to be able to hate them accordingly.

Women and black people are still subject to widespread systemic discrimination
Equating them with Christians is stupid as hell

I'm stating though that legitimate minorities, such as those, are still subject to considerably less discrimination than is generally accepted.
I'm less equating them with christians as suggesting the similarity of the overdone minority complex, when in many cases it is nearly gone.
I guess you can say i'm anti-religion.
Your as bad as you think religious people are.
Ok, let's go over it again. I don't care what you believe in (fairies, flying unicorns, god, etc) or do as long as you keep it to yourself. You can do whatever the fuck you want in private but in a public place you respect majority's wish and i assure you nobody else on that plane wanted to see/hear the 'ritual'.
I think the majority would want you to be quiet. I'm atheist but fucking hell, I respect religions, as I would like them to respect mine.
I'm stating though that legitimate minorities, such as those, are still subject to considerably less discrimination than is generally accepted.
They're subject to considerably more. Wild guess, are you a white male?
if they were Muslims they would have been taken down
There really is a ridiculous climate of fear around air travel these days. FFS, it's been nearly ten years.
Because people tieing wooden boxes to themselves on airplane isn't a safe thing you faggot
Because people tieing wooden boxes to themselves on airplane isn't a safe thing you faggot
Oh no a wodden box we will crash
Oh no a wodden box we will crash
wodden boxes could have bombs in them because wodden is the number 1# source of terrorism.
Now see, a crafty attendant could just put a penny in all of the seats of the jews, that will get them to hurry up.
