In complete and total seriousness, John Paul II did a lot of good things in his life, far surpassing the bad. Whether or not I like the religion (or jokingly, the Polacks or the Germans) is besides the point because this was a good man who deserves the honours he's being given. I can't blast the man who improved relations with multiple religions, was an intrinsic part of the downfall of communism in (to simply put it) Europe, and most certainly of all was an incredibly intelligent man. I know for a fact I wouldn't have the brains or gusto to do his job.
