Personally, I think a better example of a game that improves reaction time would be Serious Sam.
But hey, that's just me. :v:
I'm pretty sure they mentioned Blops 2 because so far it's the biggest launch this year, go ask any random dude on the street and he'll say something like "Oh yeah the new call of duty, it's XYZ!"
another thing some people seem to miss
games like Black Ops 2 can
the article states like Black Ops 2, doesn't necessarily mean just the aforementioned title.
What a crock of shit. I went from normal sight to being shortsighted in the span of 3 years thanks to playing video games.
when they say better visuals they don't mean that your eyesight gets better,no, they mean things like seeing shades of grey faster than normal people, hand-eye coordination, because i use glasses and i can't see shit without them, but i have this amazing attention to detail even at far distances, it's got to do more with the brain and has nothing to do with the eyes.
I think it'd be interesting to see the dynamics of people who play different kinds of games.
You'd get really twitchy, alert, and active people who play action FPS's
Scheming, thoughtful, good-at-managing people who play RTS's and TBS's
And the mix of the two who play Dota, Dota 2, LoL etc (What do they call those? MOBA's?)
Also I wonder if people who play RPG games do better economically than those who play RTS games. In an RPG, especially ones like Eve, shrewd business and economical management can be a good asset that might carry over to the real world.
From my experiences playing Starcraft, all I hear is "spend all of your resources as fast as possible, they won't do any good sat in the bank. If you can't buy any combat units, keep buying resource collectors!".
I'd like to see how the two economical outlooks play out in real life, if at all.

My family doc said that my left eye would've gone to shit anyway, playing with an old CRT monitor just sped up the process a bit. :v:
CoD is an example. I played a shit tonne of first person shooters from SNES to PC.

Staring at monitors for long times apparently does not cause any permanent damage aside from possible eye soreness and such for a short while.
face it, your eyesight detoriated naturally with time, some people's sight detoriates very early in life, for some after childhood, some only when old and some peoples sight never detoriates.
Hardcore gamers have better visual acuity than non-gamers, improved attention and a better ability to multitask and to switch their focus between multiple tasks quickly.
Wow I have none of those, maybe that's why I suck at games.

Sort of agree, but computer screen emits white light which is bad for your eyes because we humans are used to yellow light coming from the sun which is much easier for our eyes, also staring at computer screen for long period of time without moving your eyeballs much causes most of the problems with sight, your eyes focus on one object at one distance for long period of time and that's the reason they adjust to one certain distance because of that, and if you keep carrying doing that for long periods of time you end up short sighted.
Black Ops 2 good for you. Has science gone to far. 95% of the people who answers got it wrong.
But this has been said and again and again. I think it's time for video games to stop being this big shocker that if something good comes from them then every body goes ape shit over it.

Yellow light is meh, white lights are much prettier.
I have near the reactions of a fighter pilot.
And the body of a deceased 60 year old smoker with rigor mortis setting in.

Have you seen your face in white fluorescent light? I did see mine and I looked so ugly :v:
One of the reasons white light sucks.

Yeah but I'm not much of a looker to begin with tbh. Also I hate the yellow-red tinge my skin has, and yellow lighting doesn't exactly help with that.
There's just something about that TED intro theme that makes me feel all relaxed and happy.
Uh no rts games like starcraft improve your reactions, going around rambo in an fps is not gonna improve something.
are you a cognitive neuroscientist?
I figured out how to play on my own, so what does that make me? :v:
I kinda figured it out on my own
er
With the aid of the quickstart guide
Can't deny science buying BLOPS now.

It's because soccer moms are ignorant, they're the ones that get shocked
then again they probably just say its BS and ignore facts because their brains don't work.
why mention blops 2 when there are better FPS?
Because it's the most popular FPS of today and therefore, more relevant. I mean, why would you sacrifice reach to satisfy some nerds' ideas of what is good and what's bad?
I have an arguing point now when I can't play video games.
why mention blops 2 when there are better FPS?
blops 2 is good
blops 2 is good
Probably also because they used black ops to try this out.

I actually think CoD would probably be one of the better games to try this out on. Online, it's probably one of the fastest paced shooters I've played(admittedly haven't played tribes though). If I ever play other FPS's and then pop CoD in for a play, it always takes me a minute or two to acclimatise to the speed of it. Your reactions just need to be extremely quick while still retaining accuracy, and you need to make a lot of decisions in split-seconds.
When I used to play CoD4, I loved using shotguns for the challenge of it, as they were seriously underpowered. Anywhere indoors was fine, but once I was outdoors, it got tricky. Using ambient smoke and smoke from other explosions to get from place to place, having milliseconds to decide if it was worth using a flashbang grenade to get a bit closer or to run away, running into a room with multiple enemies and prioritising targets instantly. One of my proudest moments was when I ran into a room and aimed right. Clear, but I heard a click, spun left in time to see an enemy hiding behind a claymore. Manage to kill the guy before the claymore killed me.
