Lenin overthrew the Republic, yes, a government supported by other communists (for those of you not in the know, the Feb. Revolution overthrew the Tsar, the October one overthrew the short-lived Republic).
Lenin didn't "indirectly caused the deaths", most of that can be blamed on Stalinism.
If Lenin would have just supported the Republic like everyone else, Stalin would've respected it too. No revolution, no collectivization, no communist countries.

The Republic was a total mess - it was weak and didn't have the balls to get shit done.
Um, Stalin was an unpredictable character, you can't say he wouldn't take over (remember, Stalin was the man that conquered his own country - and he at one point was an oppressed-by-Russians Georgian too)!
The revolution wouldn't have been crushed, you do realize that moderate socialists controlled the Republic right? I bet people would have gotten fed up with the moderateness of the Republic and become pro-Bolshevik. The Bolsheviks were supported for a reason, you know.
The 5 Years Plan collectivization in theory wasn't bad at all, the way Stalin carried it out was terrible. Lack of supplies caused huge issues and thus the collective farms couldn't correctly operate.
And communist countries aren't a bad thing. Go home, Rautatie.
Jesus Christ, what? Lenin overthrew the legitimate democratic goverment of the Republic of Russia! That goverment was democratically chosen by the peoples of Russia, and that retard overthrew it because ''BAWW I DON'T WANT TO SHARE MY POWERZ''. Lenin indirectly caused the deaths of tens of millions of people between 1918 and 1991, and has caused more suffering than any other world leader combined. In my opinion, since he started the communist revolution, he is THE MOST EVIL man who has ever existed on this planet.
:colbert:
The Tzar would often go out into the streets and shoot/order-to-be-shot anyone he saw that he wanted. Tzarist Russia was entirely backward, and was still in a feudal system during WWI, which was like the Stone Age compared to other superpowers like Britain and France. The people were starving, the economy was in shambles, reforms were unheard of.
When Lenin took control, the society was reformed substantially. Social, political, and religious freedoms unknown to the Tzardom were established. He transformed a backwards farming community into a world-class power in a matter of years.
It wasn't until Stalin (against Lenin's orders) took command by having Trotsky assassinated. He removed all social reforms and established a total dictatorship.

No reforms, no social equality, no people happy, no industrial safety measures, no success.
Sounds great.
