Not having to run your server I guess.
even then, i run a teamspeak server on a old ass pc with a 1.6ghz cpu, it hardly ever goes above 10% usage with like 8 people on it
Skype for Linux never gets any UI updates, as far as I know it's been the same for the past few years.

I'm quite happy with how simplistic and functional it is. (Notice the lack of any adverts too).
Skype is shit to me, ive switched to razer comms because I was tired of the ads and it being a resource hog for no reason. Also kept resetting my friend's settings if they were playing games, putting them at max volume for no fucking reason at all.

Also they allow some adds that spread adware or trojans to your system for just having it up. Gotten assloads of warnings from skype with MSE and malawarebytes.

But that's the thing, you have to set up a server. Some don't want to go to that trouble. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying its hard, but some people are really that lazy.

Something I did was set http://apps.skype.com as a Restricted Site in IE. Taadaa, no more ads.
the only thing that looks like an ad on my skype is this stupid thing at the top of my chats

Honestly, I wouldn't mind if this were an option in Windows. I mean, look at this:

I wish I could have Skype lite.

Is that such a big deal? Mine's using way more and I'd never even notice, that number's in KB so that's like ~77MB of ram

It's usually more, but does it need 77 MB of RAM if all it does is VoIP?
[editline]also[/editline]
It used to be a bigger issue before I bought more RAM. I'd have to kill Chrome and Skype before playing anything.

That's just the thing. You really don't notice 100 mb missing unless your pressed for ram. You really have to try to use up 8+ GB.

I have Visual Studios, the Unreal Engine 4 toolkit, Skype, Steam, about 12 tabs of Chrome and a shit tonne of other stuff open and I'm using less than half of my memory (12GB on my laptop)

Yeah the only time I have legitimate memory issues are when I'm running several VMs. Otherwise, I'm hovering around 2-3 GB used out of 8, and that's probably mostly prefetch. When I was running 512 MB system I had to micromanage, but I sort of let my system do its own thing as far as RAM is concerned.
