• Football video games make players more aggressive than violent ones

I agree. Had been playing FIFA 11 progressively over a week, even if I had won 90% of the time, the easiest chances I miss had wound me up and every stupid thing I did just made me even mad :v: I also hate people who say "oh you didn't deserve to win, I had more chances!". Yes, the score really stated that, goals win games, not chances..
I like how half of this thread thinks we're talking about Madden and the other half about FIFA.
I like how half of this thread thinks we're talking about Madden and the other half about FIFA.
Yourop and amurikkka
I've never played sports games, and I thought I was making myself violent. Life goes very funny ways.
(As much as you guys may hate cod, you cant' deny it's played by a lot of people)
I really don't see what's so bad about Call of Duty, anyways, I don't think anybody here was denying that it was played a lot.
They should try beating Shao Khan in MK9. You'll experience a new kind of "Aggression"
FIFA-rage.
RTS games seem to be the games that really piss me off. [editline]5th May 2011[/editline] I've never played sports games apart from THPS so I wouldn't be able to say.
Well, good thing I'm never playing sports video games ever.
FIFA KILLED MY PARENTS ! caps
This is surprisingly true. I never thought about it before, but playing against the computer is fucking ridiculous in every football game I've played. I'll be up 36 to 0, I'll throw a ball with a clear shot to a player, and it goes 40 feet to the right into the hands of a player from the other team with a clear way to the end zone. And they intercepted field goals. Fuck. Wait not that kind of football? uh
The results showed killing someone caused little brain activity
That's, uh, a little more worrying. I'd be happier if killing someone resulted in greater physiological response.
A 24-year-old Dutchman who killed six people and wounded 17 in a shooting spree last month had been playing Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, it was reported.
:foxnews: This just in, violent killer reported to have eaten food before going on his psychotic rampage! Experts are now investigating this new development. :foxnews:
I agree, when I die in a shooter, I don't give a fuck. When someone scores at me in Fifa 11, I start to go angry, and they wouldn't like to see me angry. Online that is, against computers there's no honour and glory.
It isn't the Madden games that cause this sort of behavior, but the opposite. Rather than Madden causing people to become aggressive, you get a lot of the aggressive football fans who play Madden. It's part of the bro mentality, and the people who get violent over Madden are probably the same people who get violent when their favorite sports team loses.
Sure, but you didn't read the study at all did you
The results showed killing someone caused little brain activity
sounds about right
sounds about right
Right, because our brains are so easily deceived between real life and digital. Killing a person you know to be digital wouldn't elicit much of a response.
Most multiplayer non-violent games make you violent anyway. e.g. Mario Party
It's amazing how after 7 sequels the first is still the most infuriating.

Correlation not causation. Aggressive dickheads are probably more likely to play football games.
They should try beating Shao Khan in MK9. You'll experience a new kind of "Aggression"
MK games turn out to be ultimately cathartic, though, because when you do best Khan you get a scene where you beat him down so hard that he explodes. Until someone makes a console adaptation of the Mesoamerican Ball Game, I don't think sports titles will have that kind of payoff.
OP says the study was from Glasgow, so it'll be Football/Soccer, not American Football (aeiou).
Correlation not causation. Aggressive dickheads are probably more likely to play football games.
I want the bad reading back so I can slap you with it.
One game that makes me flip a shit is New Super Mario Brothers Wii, beat my brother up once after he throwed me into a pit of boiling lava.
