she? why does it automatically have to be a woman who started it
Because apparently it was.
So what if people feel scared? People being afraid shouldn't affect other people's liberties. If they want to walk around carrying guns lawfully, then so be it.
But, this is essentially inciting public unrest just for the sake of inciting public unrest, which has the potential to develop into something less... controllable. They're not going to prove their point by doing this, they're just going to cause trouble and, if anything, hurt their own case. It may be lawful but it doesn't make it a good idea.
she? why does it automatically have to be a woman who started it
why did you just go all "sanius squad" on us. He's most likely talking about Diane Feinstein, the biggest hypocrite on the fucking planet. [editline]14th January 2013[/editline]
People in the media talk in the way most people can understand, and their accuracy is always perfunctory. That's never going to change, no point in complaining about it
"talk in the way most people can understand" is typically talking out of their asses. I'd prefer them to call these firearms what they are, Semiautomatic rifles, instead of trying to demonize them by calling them "assault weapon" or "assault rifles"
Honestly I'd probably be more comfortable with that if they were carrying those in rifle bags or something.
Honestly I'd probably be more comfortable with that if they were carrying those in rifle bags or something.
The point of them open carrying like that was them trying to educate people. But considering the media demonizes AR-15's into making them look like cop killing rifles that fire baby seeking rounds, everybody was too scared shitless to learn anything.
Literally all they did was walk down the street with a rifle slung over their shoulder.
Literally all they did was walk down the street with a rifle slung over their shoulder.
I don't see any issues with this. Why do people assume gun owners are ticking time bombs waiting to go off.
"The muslamic communist freedom hating terrorists are here" Anyway, In my opinion, open carry firearms is a pretty shit idea, it just causes people to shit themselves and call the police and all sorts of crap to happen. Concealed carry is fine though.
AK-74 not AK-47. Vastly different guns. And if people weren't so god damn afraid of inanimate objects it wouldn't matter. Edit: The media probably doesn't even know what an AK-74 is. :v:
That's such a weak loophole.
Not really. When people read "assault weapon" they see "assault rifle," which is something that has already been banned and/or heavily regulated for civilian purchase since the 30s. An actual assault rifle is a rifle capable of selective/fully automatic fire. "Assault weapon" is a loosely-defined set of cosmetic features with no bearing on the firearm's function. The weak loophole is actually the term "assault weapon" itself, which is just a fearmongering label designed to scare the public into banning semi-auto rifles.
Because I think they should. They're police and are thus there to serve and protect.
That doesn't answer my question at all.
AK-74 not AK-47. Vastly different guns.
You realize the AK-74 is essentially an AK-47 in 5.45x39mm? They're virtually the same except for weight and some more modern exterior features.
Because apparently it was.
No it wasn't.
I don't see any issues with this. Why do people assume gun owners are ticking time bombs waiting to go off.
because of the imagery associated with guns and the history of mass shootings, gun-based crime, and gun threats in america
it'd be expected that people would be afraid but hopefully these guys stay at it so it becomes a norm and maybe other people can join in and it'll become a normal thing
semi-auto is more better for killing folk than a full-auto
I have nothing wrong with weapon ownership, I have nothing wrong with people liking to own weapons, but going around open-carrying what is a military style assault rifle is just asking for trouble, no matter what you do with it.
I have nothing wrong with weapon ownership, I have nothing wrong with people liking to own weapons, but going around open-carrying what is a military style and almost military grade assault rifle is just asking for trouble, no matter what you do with it.
They're semi autos, not assault rifles or "military grade".
I read the title as Poland gunman walk around the city or something. Also I support gun rights and activism, but this is honestly retarded.
Literally all they did was walk down the street with a rifle slung over their shoulder.
Thank you for summing up the title of the thread!!!
They're semi autos, not assault rifles or "military grade".
I said almost. Like it or not the main difference between what they're carrying and what the army is issued is that civilian models are semi-auto only. The fact that it's nearly the same as military issue tends to scare people.
AK-74 not AK-47. Vastly different guns. And if people weren't so god damn afraid of inanimate objects it wouldn't matter. Edit: The media probably doesn't even know what an AK-74 is. :v:
Nah civvie AKs in the states aren't AK-74s, they're AK-47 pattern rifles, hence the AK-47 tag, same with AR-15s. [editline]14th January 2013[/editline]
semi-auto is more better for killing folk than a full-auto
Full auto sears for everyone!
I said almost. Like it or not the main difference between what they're carrying and what the army is issued is that civilian models are semi-auto only. The fact that it's nearly the same as military issue tends to scare people.
Theres actually quite a large difference in your typical AR-15. Not all AR-15's are made to mil spec, and most aren't able to have an automatic or burst fire trigger group installed because of the way they're made. Most have a metal lower but theres some that are made of plastic or polymers. The gas system may be different than the typical AR-15 gas system. It may be chambered in 5.45x39mm, 7.62x39mm, 5.56x45mm or a dozen different rounds. The only relation to an M4 carbine or an M16 variant is cosmetic
People in the media talk in the way most people can understand, and their accuracy is always perfunctory. That's never going to change, no point in complaining about it
I fail to see how blatantly mislabeling something to be something that it's not is anything but lying. The media does things like this mostly for effect. Sometimes out of genuine stupidity, but usually for effect. Do you really think there would be this much outcry if the media made it clear that there was no functional difference between a semi-automatic hunting rifle and these supposed "assault weapons"? Fuck, we have people all over the fucking world now that think that Americans can just walk into Wal-Mart and walk out with a fucking machine gun. That's misinformation and it is damaging and wrong.

But most civi ARs use standard DI gas systems and are usually 5.56mm. And either way the cosmetic relation is the important one in this situation, a person could go around walking with a convincing airsoft toy and get the same reaction. Like it or not, I certainly don't, open carrying these things frightens people and casts gun owners in a bad light.
