Cambridge Analytica filmed saying they use bribes and sex workers

This is literal history in the making that we're all a witness to. This is the kind of thing you see behind closed doors in movies and TV Dramas about corporations like this pulling the strings of the biggest politicians in the world. We're truly living in a very mad world, and a lot is going to change VERY fast in upcoming years because of all of this. God help us all.
Basically, Cambridge Analytica is a big data firm that collects ALL the data that they possibly can on Facebook/social media/confidential records, send out literal corporate and private spies, and similar Intelligence Agency-like tactics to learn anything they can to use as leverage against anyone in the world. They then have clients that come in (as displayed in this undercover report) and pay them millions of dollars or something in similar value, in order to target someone they want to triumph over in some way. Whether it be politically or otherwise.
They played a key role in Trump becoming president, because as discussed in these reports, Trump was one of their clients. He payed them millions in order to use information warfare to convince the nation that Hillary Clinton was evil, to hide shady business practices, to help out Republicans to win positions of power etc etc. This is seriously a massively ethical nightmare and goes to show how deep the roots of corruption have gone. Democracy has completely gone out the window for Republicans tied to this, and we have a lot of work to do in the future to prevent similar events from happening again.
Well holy mother of fuck. That is huge.
Don't think I've seen much fake news here in Sweden, at least not to any social media presence. I could be wrong thougg. Most of my ads are for products.
So uh... exactly how fucked does that make Trump seeing how the Trump campaign gave $6 million dollars to CA? And how giddy is Mueller about all this?
That is some damn good undercover digging! Utterly terrifying how people can be (easily) manipulated like that.
im ready for Geneva convention-tier privacy law reform
Ignore these quotes lol I can't delete them from mobile.
The ICO has ordered Facebook to get the fuck out of Cambridge Analytica HQ, but have been unable to obtain a warrant tonight so are preparing to go in tomorrow morning

that's a lot of evidence destruction time, that's no fucking good
this begs the question: can the Brexit vote still be considered valid when just over half a million people could have been manipulated into voting Leave? the result was so nail-bitingly close that it isn't unreasonable to suggest that CamAnal's meddling was what caused the tip in the end
i'm not saying "let's shut this thing down lads!" but it has to be said that the legitimacy of the entire thing is pretty much in tatters if that is the case.
Wars in the past involved large-scale mobilizations of troops and machinery in open conflict. Then, the cold war involved espionage and small-scale proxy conflict, with both sides vying for the supremacy of their own ideas, the threat of nuclear devastation too large to allow for open conflict.
There's a natural evolution here. As open physical conflict between large players on the national stage becomes increasingly untenable due to economic interdependence and MAD, run of the mill conflicts will be fought in the space of ideas instead. This organization is connected with the Trump campaign, and Bannon, and both are connected with Russia. The United States is being caught with its pants down in an information-age conflict, as we'd been warned might happen by information security experts some years ago. It doesn't matter how large the defense budget is, how many tanks you have or how many troops you can field, or even how advanced your military technology is. If you can subsume the idea-space of a nation's population bloodlessly, you've won.
but wait
there's more:

Please please let any evidence that might be found be intact. The Facebook fuckery is skeeving me hard.
That was false

It's been how many months/years of how much proof and evidence of bad actors in the big data sector? Piles of it, and we're just barely starting to react.
What this tells me is whatever we come up with will be very quickly circumvented for the benefit of the bad actors we see every where.
It's terrifying how this sort of comes to resemble aspects of 1984.
The issue is that we can never truly know just how influential the adverts and information where on the public in Brexit or Trump or any of the other elections they have meddled with. Maybe it changed the minds of thousands of people, maybe a hundred, maybe twelve.
We cannot conclusively say if these elections went the way they did because of them to such a degree that the results could be overturned and challenged.
It may be safe to say they where a contributing factor, but they are not the lone reason these elections went the way they did and given the misinformation that is around these days it is naturally hard to be able to pin it all down on a single entity as to who is to blame.
They have acted in a way that is -if nothing else- wholly immoral. But it is not like we have unmasked the bad guy, Scooby Doo style and all is going to be right with the world. This is just the tip of the iceberg on many different things.
Not only did they work for Mercer and Bannon, guess who introduced them to the Trump campaign?
Jared Kushner, who brought in Brad Parscale who brought in CA.
What's Parscale up to now?
Oh, nothing, just a little side project called running the Trump 2020 campaign!

This is 1984, plus Back Mirror Season 3 Episode 1, plus Idiocracy.
Please tell me this is a joke. Like seriously. Every single fucking corrupt piece of shit who contributed to Trumps campaign should be imprisoned for life and have the goddamn key thrown away. No exceptions, none what so ever. Make these sons of bitches good examples so that no-one would ever think of fucking with the democracy of any elections whatsoever. That ain't gonna stop the whoreson that is Putin though.
There's only one solution to fix it in the short-term

Another good reason to delete your Facebook, in light of today's news:

What if that's why the Trump campaign felt emboldened in pushing Moore? Because CA had tons of Facebook profiles from Republican voters in the state who've indicated in various surveys over the years that they're probably a lot more comfortable with barely-illegal than they let their wives know while they keep the cache and history clean?

Well, now we know that this was to help pre-identify which districts GOP child molesters would be able to win.
More like this:
Facebook Security Chief Said to Leave After Clashes Over Disinfo..
Facebook is committed to not doing anything about this problem, if they're not outright complicit.
This is very project veritas-y
What exactly does "Facebook is in CA's office" mean?
Who is "Facebook" here? What are they doing there?
probably facebook damage control reps trying to talk to CA and tell them to stop before its too late.
but its already too late
Plus Brave New World.
Unless you have proof that the videos in this were altered to fundamentally change the nature of the recording, you really don't have any grounds to compare this to Project Veritas. Project Veritas isn't a laughingstock because they use hidden cameras, they're a laughingstock because they've been proven to edit and re-cut footage in such a way that the final video is fundamentally untrue.
Channel 4 News, whilst not our highest calibre of news broadcasters, do have access to quite a bit of well regarded investigative power. Sure they would have done some editing for broadcast timing, but they wouldn't get away with outright fabrications as they are overseen by Ofcom similarly to every other news agency on our main stations.
Channel 4 got in trouble for a few misteps in the Westminster attack coverage not too long ago, if they were fabricating stuff here that'd rustle Ofcoms jimmies something fierce.
I just meant in the sense that its the same sort of tactic (hidden camera, puppet person undercover, entrapment of comments). It wasn't meant to be a knock just pointing out a connection between tactics.
The issue with comparing vertias and this is one manufactures controversy and one spotlighted controversy.
