If less people are dying from firearms, while the number of firearms remain high, I would say that that is a reason that, as some in this thread like to put it, "people can keep their toys".
Im getting a little confused here. I said that in response to him saying as a whole it was getting worse, which isnt really true iirc. As a whole, firearm homicides are dropping, but yeah also mass shootings are more frequent than they were. Thats bad, yes.
I did, and after reading your (general you, not you specifically) arguments I decided that was too much too soon. So maybe a buyback system would be a good first stepping stone, since the idea of confiscation makes people's trigger fingers twitchy.
Jesus you have to be actively trying to miss the point to infer this, like reading peoples sentences and actually thinking to yourself "How do I misinterpret this in a way that makes it seem to agree with my line of thinking"
And i dont think that would work either. The entire culture surrounding firearms and its relation to the country is way different from Australia. Again why do you keep doing this snide shit.
I'm not sure enough would get turned in with a buyback to get the result you probably want if your goal is to reduce mass shootings. I think it's fairly safe to say that the US's current gun culture is much stronger than the one of 90's Australia and most citizens would be much less willing to turn in weapons for the price of a few tanks of gas.
I was more or less trying to pin that statement vs. the idea that firearms are commonly defended as a critical matter of self-defense from criminals, with the assumption that criminals will have guns.
Closing down gun stores would also be a good step, I think. Case in point: http://www.allgov.com/news/controversies/4-gun-shops-responsible-for-selling-guns-recovered-at-20-percent-of-chicago-crime-scenes-150713?news=856943 Realco guns tied to 2,500 crimes in D.C. and Maryland Again why do you keep doing this snide shit. You're the one telling me my ideas would start a civil war, man.
Yeah no that would also raise a huge stink.
Well, I'm sorry, but tough fucking shit.
Y'know cracking down on straw purchases would do wonders. It is absolutely not enforced currently.
Doesn't less people dying from guns despite raising guns sales just totally decimate your point? I'm on the left. I am a Canadian, I voted NDP and liberal, and I frankly, do not understand where the condescenion, bad arguments, poor and faulty logic is coming from. Argue something reasonably, this point is you cherry picking which ever side of a piece of data is convenient for you. It's sad.
The point, i believe he's trying to make, is that at the end of the day, people are dying. Lives are being lost. The method may be different, but it doesnt change that so many people are being killed or dying in accidents or dying of diseases directly caused by those kinds of things.
Hey man. Anything you like? We should take it from you. And if you raise a stink, tough fucking shit. You lack empathy while accusing others of lacking empathy and it's just nonsense. Either discuss things like a person with a rational brain, where you argue points, and not emotional stances and derisive comments or don't waste 3 hours of your day on a forum just literally raging at people as you have.
You're not going to find many gun owners who disagree with prosecuting FFL holders who sell a gun without running a 4473 through. The same thing with investigating straw purchases. I'd go as far as to say most gun owners would actively WANT to see the current laws we have be followed more thoroughly (which would have stopped a ton of mass shootings, including a few recent ones), unless you're speaking of closing down otherwise law-abiding gun shops, which are already protected by law since prosecuting people over what people do with the products they bought from a place is something most Americans are against. In case you haven't seen one before, here is something you fill out every time you buy a gun at a shop, the 4473 I talked about before: (https://www.atf.gov/firearms/docs/4473-part-1-firearms-transaction-record-over-counter-atf-form-53009/download)
Tough shit? What. Sorry, tell me how the government coming in to close down an entire industry, or coming into your home to confiscate things you own would ever fly in any reality. Also why are you telling me tough shit, i'm telling you what would happen. You go in to confiscate firearms? Its seen as an attack on the civil rights of US citizens and a civil war breaks out. You go in to selectively shut down an entire subset of stores devoted to selling a certain product? Mass protests at the very least. Whats hard to understand about these things being unworkable.
Why bother banning guns if people are going to die anyway? Really?
What happens when you think you know everything, have nothing to learn, and you have all the answers on a subject like this is what we see with a variety of posters here who utterly refuse to acknowledge reality, and spout ideological propositions like the volume of their shouting has any bearing on their correctness. I genuinely haven't seen people make arguments here, just emotional pleas for legal action that would result in a far, far worse situation. But why talk about the actual issues when we can make impassioned rants about how much more we care about the innocent lives lost(even though caring isn't quantifiable, and that's just a subjective statement)
Thats not what i said at all or was implying but okay.
This isn't what he said. How do you do this in every post? How do you read "X" and get "Y"? Oh that's right, you're not interested in discussing things as they're said.
If they posted like this about literally any other subject they'd get box'd into oblivion and called out for it.
You know Obama gave the CDC money to do a study after Sandy Hook and they buried the results because it completely shat on them, right?
To reduce gun violence, you need to reduce people's access to guns. You can do that by reducing the number of places where people can buy guns. It's not rocket science. I'm sure plenty of people made a stink when no-smoking signs were created, but you know what? Tough fucking shit. I'm sure plenty of people made a stink when stop signs and traffic laws were introduced, but you know what? Tough fucking shit. Surprise: if you want to reduce the number of something, you're going to have to make it harder for people to access it. If that's worthy of causing a literal civil war then I don't know what to say. Look. It's pretty obvious that none of you actually want to discuss anything. You just want to be right. I've tried seeing things from your side, I've tried leveling with you, and all you've done is plug your ears and refuse to budge. Every time someone attempts to have an anti-gun stance, you shower them in whataboutisms and slippery slopes. I'm sorry, but human lives come before your hobby. That's indisputable. So I'm done. This isn't getting anybody anywhere.
I find it pretty funny that someone mentioned France as an example of extreme gun control not working (despite France having a far lower murder rate than the US) and yet it's not extreme enough for those who actually need it to be denied weapons. Heads up, you can shoot for sports here, too. You just need to apply for a license. You know, like when you want to drive a car, a tool far more indispensible for daily life than any firearm? What's the excuse for not wanting to adopt similar gun laws?
And thats where you keep making a massive misstep. You think thats the only way to do it. Thats wrong. Guns are the how, not the why, if you attacked the why, you wouldnt need to ban guns.
Good job not replying to anything anyone ever actually said to you then I suppose. Cant be wrong if you just argued with your own straw men eh?
Also HumanAbyss is one of the most level headed dudes in these sections what are you on about lmao.
Yes, let's create the war on guns, because the war on drugs has been so successful up until this point.
He's canadian lmao.
