Full disclosure, I'm not well-equipped for an argument like this. I just started learning about both sides of the argument relatively recently and I'm still forming opinions and gathering facts. Reading your response, it's obvious this is still way over my head because I can't answer you. I'll take your questions and criticisms to heart as I continue to form a stance on all of this.
My current stance is built on the idea that I generally prefer tactical, almost surgical legislation over that which is more generalized as it minimizes the potential for side-effects and helps to specifically target the people who are doing things wrong. I don't think we should be punishing people who haven't done anything wrong when we could be focusing our attention on those who are.
Reminder that this is the man who talked about natural magic pixie dust that cures unwanted pregnancies last election cycle.
That's nothing, I had one guy's justification be "if you think it's a bloodbath right now, just wait until you try to take our guns" as a justification for his position against gun control.
I don't even get why these so called libertarians are so pro-cop and pro-military. Who the fuck do they think is going to be sent to take away their guns? Who do they think the oppressors are?
To be fair, kids should learn CPR and basic first aid, just not as a solution for school shootings.
I think that is what he meant tbh. People should learn how to treat injuries in case of a shooting, rather than just hoping for "feel good" gun laws that change fuck and all
Looking at California here.
Well..according gun death and murder rates have dropped significantly since California imposed tough gun control legislation, from 1993 to 2014 California gun deaths saw a 56% decline while gun murders saw a 67% decline. The number has been slowly creeping up since 2014 which could potentially be correlated with an increase of firearm sales and ownership nationwide. To say Cali’s laws have done fuck all is innacurate though.
No wonder people go out and Protest.
