No, Emma Gonzalez did not tear up a photo of the Constitution

I don't understand how faking shit like this doesn't fall under libel/slander laws.
Yeah, for real. It’s blatant propaganda.
Though I also suppose it also confirms some stufies. i had to read for a poly-sci class that related to propoganda. According to this study, and many before it that has been conductex since WWII, is that Propoganda is effective at reinforcing what people believe, not nessecarily at changing their minds. So in that regards, it’s useful in firing up people who already hold a belief.
To that end, I’m saddened to see people stoop to this level. While I may not entirely agree with all of the solutiond these kids are advocating for, I’m more than happy to see them be politically active and it’s a damn shame there are so many out there willing to condemn them for it.
For too many people, political activism is only good if it's your flavor of politics. Too many "Constitutionalists" would happily push a button that strips their political opposition of the right to speak up.
Remember like 2 years ago when the problem was young people not giving a shit about politics and now they do they're being told to shut up.
Young people speaking their mind are getting so much resistance from behind.
And it's not just an issue with the right. I've seen young people get shit from Hillary supporters for showing their support for Sanders or a third party, myself included. Joe Biden even told millenial voters that they don't deal with real hardships like his generation has. Your voice in politics is only welcomed if you completely get in line your respective party's views.
its incredible how effective this sorta stuff is. old-ass conservatives aren't gonna understand shit about photoshop or care when those dang liberal news sites try to report about how it's a fake. they'll just eat it all up and the damage will be done. what exciting times we live in lol.
You make an excellent point sir. Personally, I am of the opinion that we should immediately halt and take a good, hard look at exactly what's occurring in the present moment.
It's literally fake news and conservatives eat it up.
I would find it hilarious(ly sad) if Gab was yet another Russian operation.
It's called "projection".
They project literally the worst parts of themselves onto others so they can "feel right" or "feel like they're under attack".
can't be the bad guy when you're right, or when there's a bunch of money in it for you. the divide between the two sides of the political spectrum is just disgusting. smearing the other side is going to get anyone anywhere. there is no real substance to the discussion, no focus on actual policy. look at the fucking corporate media who should be reporting on actual policy and things that affect the population but they focus on shit that makes them money (stormy daniels story, russian collusion, all the dumb shit trump says and does). the result is you have a population of apathetic voters because there is no discussion about things that matter.
anyway that was kinda besides the original point, just a bit of a ramble.
"Be more involved! Vote! Speak up for what you believe in!"
"Wait, no. Not like that."
as unjustifiable as it was to attempt to smear Emma Gonzalez like that, you gotta understand who you're talking about.
now I'm not too read up on this girl, but from what I've seen, I feel like everybody is trying real hard to ignore this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHge-tgZClM
and I don't like that
she's not perfect huh? shame
might as well bring out the gallows tbh
Unless there's some serious context missing this is way more severe than just her "not being perfect".
There are no excuses for bullying, especially when you make no attempt to show remorse and double down on how you were totally justified in ostracizing him. There were way too many chances to avoid this tragedy that lie outside of just gun control - and acknowledging our culture of ostracization is definitely one of them.
There's no excuse for what Cruz did and I'm not trying to victim blame or anything; I totally respect and empathize with the sentiments of everyone affected. However, Gonzales lost a ton of moral leverage based on those comments which hint at a lack of willingness to acknowledge her and her classmates' wrongdoing.
You're telling me you never knew that one kid in class who nobody wanted to talk to? Not once? Ostracizing feels really shitty, sure, but there's a big difference between being ostracized and being bullied. Being a bully is an active thing, ostracizing can be both passive and active, and I say that as someone who's been ostracized and bullied at different points in my life.
Now, imagine that a kid who was recommended to be committed was in your class, he's got terrible social skills due to his autism, and he can't hold a conversation because of poor socialization and ADHD. He's both anti-black and anti-muslim online, and you don't know him very well because he's been dumped into school after school when he doesn't work out at the last one.
I could not blame anyone for not wanting to be that kid's friend. I would not have wanted to be that kid's friend, and I doubt most people here would have either even if they say they would have. Would a friend have helped the shooter not be a scumbag? Maybe, but that's also not any kid's real job as a highschooler. They are not obligated to be anyone's friend.
Also, really guys? You can't see why maybe, JUST MAYBE, Ms Gonzalez might be really pissed and have no remorse for that creepy kid nobody liked after he SHOT UP THEIR SCHOOL AND KILLED HER FRIENDS? She has no regrets about excluding him from her social group because she hates his guts, and that's a perfectly normal response to trauma. There is no mention of bullying in that video, just the word ostracize.
it wouldl've been based if she actually did rip up the Constitution though. just saying.
"before jumping down the throats of children"
you know, kids can do bad things too. something that really irks me is that people always assume that kids are angels for some reason. kids are very capable of being assholes, and maybe emma gonzalez just isn't the angel she's acting like is all I'm saying. don't get me wrong, I've got no evidence to back that up other than just not taking her word for it and having dealt with asshole kids during my school years.
there's a difference between ignoring somebody and ostracizing somebody. I've been ignored and I've been ostracized. being ignored is annoying, but ostracizing somebody, in a school environment, is absolutely a way of bullying them. especially if the person being ostracized, like you said, has adhd and poor social skills and maybe doesn't understand the bullshit justification for being ostracized. they don't need to be forced to be his friend, don't get me wrong, but they went out of their way to purposefully exclude him. emma did anyway. do you know how much it can do for somebody to just give them a "hey" every now and again? "hey nick." that's all it takes. I'm willing to make the assumption that he never even got that. this doesn't justify shooting up a school but I can absolutely see why he'd want to take it that far after years of dealing with that shit.
and I bet he did get bullied further than just being ostracized. I'll take emma's word for it that she didn't bully him, but that doesn't mean that nobody else in the school did.
If she could show some sort of harm caused by this, I think she could have a good case for a defamation suit.
I see this habit of outlets finding one flaw in a person and use it to tear down who they are as a person. I saw it with trayvon martin because apparently he smoked weed before he was killed. Eventually we will have the perfect victim who has never ever done anything wrong.
First off, the point that I was making is that we have no proof that she bullied him. You used your judgement without looking up context (by your own admittion) to condem her. Kids can do shitty stuff but it's not fair to attack her without some sort of proof of it, and what you posted is not it.
Nobody, and I mean nobody, owed the shooter anything. He's been caught being racist, threatening, and violent on multiple occasions to the point that he had had the FBI called on him. Whatever moralizatiin you want to blame the kids with goes out the window when you consider this kids actions and character. High schoolers are busy doing highschool things they are not obligated to give anything to people who are openly hostile like that and to claim otherwise over a school shooting is in my eyes tantamount to victim blaming.
That “piece of paper” contains bills, articles, and clauses which are supposed to place limits on what our government is allowed to do. This is so we don’t end up with shit like what happened to Count Dankula.
But please, go on about telling me how being thankful for civil rights and liberties is just a weird fetishism.
How would you guys react if Trump made any parts of that “piece of paper” null and void?
Not to be that guy, but what difference does it make? People do awful photoshops and "smears" all the time to others. Why it is generally acceptable for that to happen, but not to her? If she wants to get into politics and get on the big stage she is going to have to learn people are not going to keep kiddy gloves on.
I think the photoshop is not in good taste, but easily debunked, in a way you could say it is a counter-protest against those that hold the same ideals as her. Clearly they feel like there is a disregard for constitutional rights. Why is she allowed to have a voice but not the other way around? I don't think it is a simple case of "big guy wants to bully kid who survived mass shooting." Yes there are people out there like it, but honestly their responses are not that much better. Everyone is guilty of painting each other with a single brush stroke and only making things more divided.
We have a constitution in Spain too. Nobody acts like it's made of solid gold and unicorn farts, or gets upset when some idiot burns a picture of it. I don't think I've ever heard anyone not from the US mention the word "Constitution" at all.
Because we don't necessarily trust our government, and like to show it exactly when and where it can fuck off with it's bullshit.
The constitution is a fluid document full of amendments and changes over time. There's no reason to pretend that it's set-in-stone.
That's a bit of a flimsy argument when your government is in the pocket of corporations, yet most people aren't outraged by that bullshit. Besides, I don't think that the general public trusts their government in a majority of countries around the world.
You say this, but it just doesn't really seem true.
There's so many instances of corruption that I can name off the top of my head that your country men, and specifically the republican party, didn't react to in any way, shape, or form as a general entity. Because they don't fear you, they're never going to fear you, and the same dopey fuckheads are voted into office election season after election season and nothing changes.
This video was removed but it should be noted that the title of the video doesn't match up with the content at all. She doesn't come close to admitting bullying. It's just more fake news to undercut their message.
You mean the original? I doubt that's what this kid would have in her possession, even if it wasn't photoshopped. She's not motherfucking Nicolas Cage
And even if that were the case and it were destroyed, I'm pretty sure a lot of people have backups and copies. It's not like the government would start disrespecting the rules just because the original support for them was destroyed.
Would he do it by tearing it down? Would tearing it down make the constitution of the United States of America null and void?
What does that have to do with sacralizing the support of the writing rather than simply caring for the principles themselves?
