Yep, it's a fuckin' trade war.
What are you doing, stop
O BOY HERE WE GO
The United States had promised that the proposed tariffs would hit Chinese tech, aerospace, communications and machinery. But the list released Tuesday includes some unexpected items, such as malaria test kits, hearing aids, defibrillators, flame throwers, syringes, artificial teeth and X-ray machine equipment. What the fuck is this.
"Republican-controlled federal government proposes tax increases on 1,300 imported goods" is what's really going on there. What could possibly go wrong?
wwwhy wouldn't it be?
>tech God dammit, now all the shit I buy from Cheapistan to tinker with is going to go up in price, both directly AND from second-hand sellers in the US.

god damn this is some rapid-fire escalation
I wonder how hard the Dow's gonna go down today on the news that China and America are having a good ol' trade war.
oh my god what a fucking degenerate moron
Well there goes the last revenue of the already deeply flawed economies of the plains states. Strange how people can be manipulated against their best interest. You'd think personal greed would prevail over tribalism.
They don't have a strat. Trump went into office without ANY strategies.
Wich wont happen, the reason china is the powerhouse of the world atm is because the government has free college/trade training to keep adding workers to the workforce. You'll never have that en mass in the US. Also china is the center of most major countries bar the US, those manufacturing jobs will never really come back and are already being replaced with a robotic workforce.
I'm spit-balling here but assuming we do go into a full blown trade war we have the south Koreans, Philippines, japan, and Taiwan as effectively vassals and India as a potential ally all controlling the coastline and the Chinese navy with it so in theory we absolutely could just shut down their entire trade fleet at the drop of a hat and force China to either become friends with Russia of whom they don't like nor trust, or start investing even more into east Africa and open up relations with India. Whether this is good or not I don't know but i do know everyone is going to be pissed about the economy shift and the prices along with it. Personally I think all the psuedo vassals stated above have everything to gain in this trade war as no matter what happens in this trade war they get the business that would be sent to china going to them instead. These actions Ironically would help redistribute the wealth to countries that need it but would come at a great cost to rome and cartha.... USA and China, so silver linings on a tapestry made of crap if you will.
If Trump wanted to crash Chinese economy a trade war would be the way to go about it.
The markets are going to be so out of whack, Warren Buffett is going to start recommending people invest in Dogecoin instead of low-fee index funds.

is this the economic equivalent of the nuclear option
Famous last words. Why the flying fuck is he doing this? I don't see any positive side effects from stirring up shit with our partners other than to stroke baby hands delicate ego.
You answered your own question.
That's gotta be intentional
Okay, what the fuck is he talking about? Where does he get this number from? Is he seriously saying that negative $500 billion is some kind of absolute zero of economy?
I have no clue, it's just so mindboggingly crazy. Is it the trade deficit? But it's not 500 billion last I saw. So yeah, no idea.
Get a recording of this morning's Fox & Friends and I'm willing to bet you'll have your answer.
Hes used to just claiming bankruptcy instead, so he thinks the US can do the same.
does he know that numbers go higher than 500 billion - it's not some limit where "things can't get any worse"
Is he actually being serious? What is that number coming from?
You can do that but it isn't winning, trade wars just don't get won lol. Blockading china isn't a trade war, it's a war war. Also a lot of countries aren't as cooperative or as stable as china, e.g. it's a large reason why south america has had difficulty developing. So it isn't exactly that simple.
I personally believe that globalism is a good thing; Americans can get jobs in high tech sectors involved in importing Chinese manufactured goods while the Chinese can integrate both the manufacturing and development and hardware goods into their economy. I don't see why both countries can't benefit from free trade
