GOP congressional candidate: Diversity is 'a bunch of crap and un-American'

I dunno, one of the most damaging wars in human history was fought over ideas
Why do you argue with anything I say, even if it's uncontroversial? That war started with enforcing uniformity of ideas.
Ideas here are mostly veil for power struggle between states, which is at root tribalistic in nature. I'm talking about individual variation in thought in an organizational or community setting. What do you think divides people more, especially in ways that can't be changed? Opinions or group divisions?
Perhaps you're not a beacon of uncontroversial opinions?
How do you even tout diversity of ideas though? There is no way of knowing someones ideas unless they write them down or talk about them. With race and gender, and to some extent sexuality, you can identify what makes a given group diverse. For most companies I'm not even sure ideological diversity is something they should consider, as it typically has very little relevance to your job. As for universities, lets just get down to brass tax here: If you want more conservative opinions in universities, more conservatives have to go to universities. Instead of practically running away from higher education like they are right now.
You need to minimize regulations on speech and dealing with the trend of today's centralized and towering institutions being lobbied on the basis of social responsibility by individuals or groups of them, in a social rent-seeking exercise. The latter creates a race to the bottom where only the most most universal and baseline ideas are permissible, which is usually to say the most mediocre, in the same way that you and a group of friends cannot eat meat together so long as you have a vegan.
That diversity of people comes at the expense of pluralism of values is a testament to the underlying tension, especially absent assimilation, and the need for everyone to think the same universal, minimally offensive way (at least outwardly) just to get by. Thus polls stating majority concerns about political correctness, which is a form of the mentioned race to the bottom.
The entire point of using race, sex, etc. as a category in diversity is as a proxy for variation in values and thought. Except by prizing these categories, you move away from meritocracy and towards a zero-sum game of in-groups, hurting the pluralism of thought and ideas you were aiming for in the first place. Just look at the state of the West, with damaged social cohesion, shrinking democracy indexes, and all-time lows for trust in civil institutions like government, media, etc.
All this aside, we know that capturing diversity of values is not actually the intention, just the justification. The intent is to erode social divisions and create a sustainable political solution in parallel to the market expanding, consolidating, and encompassing in a historical process, unfortunately social and economic capital operate on different rules.
