• Immigrant toddlers ordered to appear in court alone

They said this in the article: Legal and child-psychology experts ridiculed Weil’s assertions, noting that key milestones for 3- and 4-year-olds include cooperating with other children, saying simple sentences and building towers of blocks. This alone is fucking bonkers that it needed to be said in the first place: Weil’s deposition came in a case in which the American Civil Liberties Union and immigrant rights groups are seeking to require the government to provide appointed counsel for every indigent child who cannot afford a lawyer in immigration court proceedings. What kind of child can afford a fucking lawyer? Are they fucking Richie Rich?
You are being dramatic because you have no point of reference. USA has biggest economy, biggest military, at least %30 of your population is somewhat sane (for instance, that figure would be around %1 in my country). America is not "fucking done for" as you so eloquently put it, you just don't know shit about the real world.
No offense but the USA being in a better state than Azerbaijan doesn't mean it's not done for. Big economy and military doesn't sustain an ailing society.
"how do you plead?" *dribbles*
American Law has truly regressed to a Victorian state. Mortifying.
This is disgusting and disgraceful to both basic human decency and the basic constitutional framework of our justice system, and anybody who believes otherwise is evil.
oof, that ending was hamfisted as hell.
People who believe they're right will (clearly) do and say all sorts of stupid shit to support their unwaivering opinion. I'm no psychiatrist, but due to the current administration, many people probably genuinely think that they are supporting the right thing - because they are fed only one angle, and a president can't be wrong, right? But does this mean they're evil? I don't know. I like to follow the saying "ignorance over malice".
Saw this a few nights ago on the TV and it gave me chills, these people never went away just in hiding until the time was right https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ycHvBT6op5Q
And what of when the ignorance is malicious? When one's ignorance is willful, hostile, and resulting in the barbaric treatment of toddlers? Yes. That's evil in my book. Not knowing any better is one thing, but seeing what's happening, rationalizing it away, and giving your assent to its continuance when all you have to do to assuage yourself of that ignorance is look and listen makes you a willing accomplice to atrocity.
Ignorance is far too frequently more harmful than malice though. Sure, you get your occasional Hitler who does a lot of bad in a short time. But while ignorance doesn't really scale that high it's far more ubiquitous in society. (Also ignorance has its hand in stuff like Hitler anyways.)
