Whilst the Democrats have done a pretty terrible job so far, I still think the Democrats have a good chance to win 2020. Neither of us have enough information to be able to judge an election that far into the future, especially without knowing who is going to run on the Democrat side.
I can see what will happen, 2019 will start and Trump will begin full time campaigning for 2020 elections because that's what he likes to do. As a result, he'll have less time to govern and make terrible decisions and the GOP, if they're still in power, will run the show in their callous but relatively competent manner. By the time elections roll around everyone will have mostly forgotten the depths of Trump's incompetence while the Dems will rely on their limp "at least we're not Trump" platform that worked so well last time.
