It's scary. My wife and I actually had "the talk" about what we should do if things went to shit in America. Right now my dread from all these events is comparable to someone in the cold war era; an overhanging fear that something bad may happen and you can't stop it.
Leave your country and let it degenerate into a shitshow while you enjoy life in a civilized country. I can't imagine taking up arms before just leaving, it's 2018 ffs you can go literally anywhere if you're just halfway educated.
imo if you're able bodied and have the resources to completely uproot and move to another country you have a duty to stay and help those who don't have the capability to leave
They didn't choose to be born in this country, so I don't see why they should have that responsibility.
it's about the people, not the country.
But why would have more of a responsibility to help those people than foreigners?
if you're leaving the US because you think it isn't worth living in for your own sake, then you aren't really going somewhere to help foreigners. the more good people that run away, the worse it gets for those that cannot.
No, what I mean is why would US native have a responsibility to help them while a foreigner doesn't?
I mean this argument could be used against refugees...
if we're talking politically, then i think the answer is obvious. if it gets to a point beyond politics, then i would hope there would be foreigners who felt a duty to help those who didn't have a choice being born in this country who need that help. i think we should help others in our community, especially those most vulnerable. this is much easier to do from the inside, so to speak.
At what point would other countries say "enough is enough?" Shit went down in Syria, no one hesitated to step in. Yes, I know there were confirmed deaths occurring there, but still. It's basically agreed upon by droves of people that we're deep into the steps of the Holocaust here. In WW2, no one knew what was happening so they weren't able to do anything until it was too late. Now, everyone knows what's happening, so... No one's doing anything until it's too late? Like, actually though, when does someone like the U.N. come in, look, and say "okay this has got to stop."
If someone pushed to the brink decides go resort to violence against those perceived responsible for things such as this the ICE/GOP will reap what they sow.
