The whole point of automation is to get rid of workers. Say it's just a job shifting thing is incredibly dishonest. If automation created as many jobs as it took away nobody who likes money would bother investing in it.
Strictly speaking that's not true, is it? The idea isn't to eliminate human employees entirely but to massively reduce the number of human employees you need. Where a factory might've employed ten workers to put something together, once they get the process automated it's just one that's needed to oversee the machine.
I mean if a baby got to be president I don't see why one shouldn't be able to defend itself in court
Fucking blows my mind that people can support full capitalism in a system that BY DEFINITION will either treat them like slaves or dispose of them for robots. And they act like capitalism is like some immortal perfect standard but it's only been around for a couple hundred years, and it maybe worked sort of when workers actually had value. The truth of the matter is there's more than enough wealth to help most of the world, RIGHT NOW, they only don't because there's no incentive, because capitalism has no incentive to help anyone, it is literally an ideology to enrich people, there's no benevolence baked in.
Neither libertarianism, fascism or socialism in their pure states can work. Neither of those systems have any balance of power - Either private entities have too much power, or government has too much power. Democratic socialism is the way to go.
ya its not 100% job shifting, but its also not the reason why our economy sucks right now. Employment is at an all time high, productivity at an all time high, corporate profits at an all time high, yet wage growth is anemic, if anything else was going on we'd see negative wage growth. Clearly the system has been structured against the workers, not just through technology.
If you're increasing productivity and profits without increased wages, well that's just good business. Companies cannot act moral since their competitor won't and they'll make more dosh.
What? The jobs market is tight as hell right now and employers in many industries are *desperate* to find people to fill them. Hospitals around the country sometimes have hundreds of open nursing positions at a time. It's not about how hard it is finding a job right now. It's about how hard it is finding an outdated job. And those jobs will continue to be outdated with or without immigration.
