Yep, but it's probably too late. Democratic Socialism to many in the US now includes both Social Democracy and actual socialism. In the similar way neo-liberalism, libertarian, liberalism have changed meanings in the US.

You know what, if conservatives continue to smear the government doing anything to actually help the 99 percent as "socialism," I'm all for the left embracing the label, even if the vast majority of them just want us to get with the times and become more like Sweden - aka a fundamentally decent country that cares for its populace and doesn't let corporations control everything. Most people want that shit anyway. That's the reason these smear tactics are being used in the first place - to discredit perfectly reasonable government policy as some sort of radical anti-capitalist revolution.

I’m probably going to get flak for this but to be fair, I think a lot of people were expecting a scanned hard copy of his birth certificate with the footprint on it. What they released was a PDF file with no footprints which basically anyone with illustrator could just turn off the text layer and replace the text with anything they want, which basically everyone in my Adobe Illustrator class did at some point for shits and giggles
Conservative media picked up on that real fast to claim the document was fake.
I voted social democrat in our parliamentary elections. Democratic socialists though I wouldn't touch with a stick. That kind of economic model seriously needs to die already.

of course. when i was a socialist i got p. angry when liberals tried to call themselves socialists, since it diluted the term and made it meaningless (govt intervention = socialism!)
