And that was your answer, use common sense. Most of the crap you're seeing is from long time users acting 5 year olds whose mother's left the room. It's not our job to stop you from making an ass of yourself.
this isn't clear rule-making dude, my god
No, it's your job to make the community enticing for new members and ensuring that the site remains a certain level of quality. So far, that responsibility has been left unfulfilled.
Yeah, it isn't. Nothing is stopping you from posting like an idiot. If you want to discuss that bring it over to the forum discussion thread, but Garry has already made things pretty clear.
not really, no one has made anything clear, that is the entire point I'm making
Look in the sticky. If it's posted for the sake of discussion, and has a comment in regards to why it's relevant to a discussion it's fine. If it's posted as if it were factual news, or posted with no context and the OP doesn't elaborate as to why it is conversation worthy, it'll be closed.
I suggest you work this post into the sticky because it's way clearer than what's actually there
If you water down the rules and expect "Common Sense" to dictate how things are discussed and reasoned with. It pretty much unleashes a floodgate where dipshits all across the internet are going to pour into this site and the political discussion portion of the forum will be reduced to nothing but a shitposting OIFY style forum filled with post-4chan edgelords and other "Enlightened centralists".
It's fine as it sits. We still have the discretion to close threads, if you don't think its right you can always report it. And you're free to discuss that in the form discussion thread. That is what that whole thread is for.
We were told to not report anything unless it was illegal. We don't get replies on these kind of matters in the forum discussion thread. When we do, it's some snide shitpost.
We also said you wouldn't get banned for making reports. As for forum discussion you have to realize that nothing is set in stone, and sometimes it takes time for things to change. Regardless of whether or not you like the new way of doing things, there's nothing stopping you from discussing it. As for the kind of responses you receive that's entirely on the poster, and if you believe taking about it isn't going to change anything then that's all on you.
So don't report anything unless it's illegal, but also report things that you think are low quality? I hope you can see where the confusion and disdain towards these new "rules" comes from. These things get brought up in Forum Discussion multiple times daily. Talking about stuff does start steps towards solving things, like you said. But listening is the other half of that equation, and without it, we aren't going to get very far. What happens in Forum Discussion isn't really directed towards you, so I'm not trying to place blame on you for anything. But I do want to make sure that everyone is on the same page when it comes to the pushback on these changes, and why that pushback is happening beyond just "oh, babies hate changes".
Look, I can't offer anyone here a concrete answer. That has been done on purpose to allow the moderation team greater discretion. What I can say is I've been told to not ban a vast majority of once bannable offenses. That alone should construe that whatever action you take, so long as it's not illegal, will not get you banned. From that, a lot of forums still have section rules in regards to posting new threads, and if those aren't met the thread will be closed. As for your concerns with forum discussion I can't give you an answer either, and I'm sorry if that's not a good enough answer for you. I've been given an outline as to what I'm supposed to do, and my job is to follow it. If you wish to continue this conversation feel free to nake a thread in meta it post in forum discussion. As the purpose of the thread was simply to announce the change on what is acceptable in polidick, and we are now talking about general forum policy I've closed the thread. The conversation can continue in the proper section
