I think you need to acknowledge that what you were talking about was not opinion. It is about facts and the presentation and distortion of them. A statistic which is written as 14% and which you cite as '4%' is not 'your opinion'.

Wait, could you point out this 14% to 4% mix up? Or is this just a hypothetical example? In which case I agree, but so far what I have seen as specific examples is more subjective than factual misrepresentations.

I'd like to take a moment to let you know that I really appreciate the fact that you're still around and actively moderating the forum, Jimmema. I don't know what's been going on these past few days (weeks?), but I've been noticing a lot of cruft seeping into the forum, with no one seemingly doing anything to stop it. Blatant trolling and shitposting as far as the eye can see that would have resulted in bans within hours, going unchecked for days, with page upon page of people collectively and unanimously bitching not only about the trolling and shitposting itself, but lamenting the fact nothing is being done to stop it. Seeing your banning Dud really raised my spirits for this forum, which have just been sinking more and more with each passing day lately. And then I saw that you were pretty much the only moderator to do anything at all today, and it just made me want to personally reach out and tell you that I appreciate your efforts. I would have PM'd you it, but either I'm stupid (which is entirely possible) or Newpunch doesn't have private messages anymore (the Discord is probably meant for that, but I can't be assed setting up a Discord just to PM you my thanks).

In the video he accurately points out the difference between a social democrat, and a democratic socialist, and notes that Cortez considers herself the latter, and that she is a democratic socialist. But when he lists her campaign promises, such as social healthcare, free education, and job assurance, those are all systems of a social democracy, not the other way around. Am I missing something here? Why is Cortez considered socialist by both the left and the right? Am I missing out on some of her stated political stances?

What I want is a not-dishonest context of an article, and spreading an idea as Y when the context actually says X without even mentioning it is dishonest and it is bad journalism, which is the point I was trying to make. And yeah, you can make the same points with TYT or Contrapoints. What's your point... I'm generally against posting those as well.

To be frank we had our suspicions, but until recently we didn't have anything definitively pinning him. For all we knew it could have been someone trying to mimic him. It wasn't a matter of lenency, more so a matter of making sure we crossed our T's and dotted our i's before making the ban.

I'd argue that the term Democratic Socialism is now in reference to a more left-wing form of social democracy and that the term has evolved to meet such a standard. It's similar to the evolution of the word libertarian from its anarchist roots to its fringe classical liberal roots.

I'd advise you to keep your eyes out, because apparently he made a bunch of other alts and has them waiting in the wings. I don't think he's smart enough to not give up the plot immediately, but if it's still possible to IP ban, I'd say he's warranted it by now.

no, we really don't. as someone who has talked exclusively about politics on this forum for a very long time, it has degenerated into an echo chamber over the years. this is mostly as a product of world events, the rating system, and more centralized platforms like reddit and social media creating a big tent arena while forums create a more tightly-knit community

Go to one of the countless gun debate threads that pop up every day and tell me again that this is a left wing hive mind. I do agree with you that voting systems like that of reddit's can actually turn debate one sided, and that is why many of us here are against garrys "facepunch should be a forum reddit knockoff" vision and why we want the strict moderation we were known for.

If you ignore all the times we do not agree with each other I guess we are a hivemind!
