hahahahahahaha
She hasn't tried to commit mass murders, i dont think you can get any more disingenuous. How am i supposed to take you serious after this?
I have knowingly prevented you from reaching life-saving care: Did I murder you? Yes/no.
Depends on the circumstances. To pour it into an incredibly clear example how its not always murder: If you and me both are starving, and i used my last flower i bought and paid for, to bake a loaf of bread and you try to take it from me, and I kill you... Thats not murder. You have no right on things that are not your property, even if your life depends on it. To build further on the hypotheticals... Does a cop shooting and killing a person trying to steal something commit murder if he followed procedure to the letter? It was incredibly distasteful of her, and i think even illegal, but its not mass murder. Those immigrants are there to break the law she tried to stop them. Vigilantism sure, but not mass murder
There is no procedure for a cop shooting and killing a person who did nothing to provoke it. If they killed them for no good cause, it is murder. If they killed them for just cause - it is also murder, but in self-defense, which is likely to be acquitted and forgiven. Also, your situation is improper to this context. Allow me to correct it and then ask you the same question: A cop shoves a loaded gun into your hand which, thanks to superglue, is now stuck to them. He radios in for support while blocking you from retreating in any direction. A new cop arrives on the scene, they tell you to drop the weapon, you obviously cannot - you are shot and killed. Did that first cop murder you by building a situation which they know would likely result in your death and which they enforced by limiting alternative outcomes and any choice on your part? Yes/no. Being a vigilante means you are breaking the law. Breaking the law to break the law does not forgive you breaking the law. If you committed mass murder 'in the name of all that is good' you still committed mass murder.
She was involved in organized attempts to sink refugee boats in the Mediterranean Sea, and prevent aid workers from rescuing those aboard. How can you see that as anything other than an attempt to kill everyone on that boat?
Because it's not guaranteed that they die, as far as I can tell from their arguments so far. If you don't literally put a gun to their head and fire it then apparently you're just enforcing the law and it's fine that they die because you get to be judge, jury, and executioner whenever someone's breaking the law.
Can you evidence this part, please? The only article cited so far says that they tried to stop refugee boats and quotes them directly saying they don't want boats to sink.
this is non-factual for as far as i can see. All ive read is she wanted to prevent them from harbouring or landing on the coast, they never attempted to prevent the coast guard getting to them or prevent aid workers ect...
They've shot flares at them (though she claims it was 'just to light them up because it was night').  In May, far-right activists disrupted a Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) search-and-rescue boat from disembarking at the Sicilian port of Catania. Then, on June 26, the activists announced they had obtained a vessel (called C-Star) and headed to Catania, where they hoped to “intervene” in NGO search-and-rescue missions during what they said would be a “summer of disturbances.” Generation Identity — part of the Identitarian Movement, — is an anti-Muslim, anti-immigration youth wing of a French nationalist group that has led the attack under the mission name “Defend Europe” and raised more than $150,000 to fund its anti-rescue work. Its members say charity rescue missions are a “pull factor, meaning more and more migrants subscribe to the the [sic] illusion that the passage to Europe is safe,” so they say they plan to send boats to the African coast to “expose” the work of NGOs operating off Libya. They believe — and want to ‘prove’ — NGOs are colluding with human traffickers to fuel the migration flow. In June, I boarded a rescue mission with MSF, one of the same boats the activists are hoping to stop. On board, many of the people who had been rescued had escaped indefinite detention in Libya, where conditions are described as “inhumane.” Others had fled forced labor, sexual violence and even modern-day slave markets. A few weeks earlier, activists had blocked one of MSF’s boats in Catania — the rescue team was not amused, but nor were its members threatened. Instead, they’ve grown weary: They want to get on with their work, not play games with people who are putting vulnerable people’s lives at risk. The MSF is saying these people are directly putting people's lives at risk when they block those boats.
Think about that first line in your post, and consider if you aren't just turning her into a cartoon villain that would do everything to hurt those people arriving in the boats? Do you really think she woudnt care if she shot a refugee with a flare dart and put them on fire? Or even worse, would do it on purpose? Again, shes an extremist, and some of the things she does are bad. its clear vigilantism over a dubious cause at its worst. i agree. BUT (and this 'but' is enormous here...) She didn't attempt mass murder... And unless theres definitive proof she tried to hit people with the flares, im going to assume she was using them to see in the dark, as that is what flares are used for in shipping and it was dark. I want to bet if the coast guards lights would have broken down they too would have shot flares. Have you simply not lost your faith in humanity?
Imagine going this fucking far to defend and out-and-out white supremacist. Holy shit. Lauren Southern is a despicable human being, you don't even need to make a cartoon villain out of her because she's way ahead of you when it comes to that. The dumb cow spreads white supremacist conspiracy theories such as "The Great Replacement", spouts alt-right talking points constantly and was definitely a leading figure in funding these "anti-migrant" ships (which in itself is a problem because that shit is the job of the country, not private citizens from another fucking country entirely). Stop defending white supremacists.
Into the air, not at or 'over' the boats. Good to know that the cop in the situation I brought up is absolutely blameless of murder because he didn't attempt it, he just allowed it to happen after creating a situation in which it would very likely occur. Nazis, ultra-nationalists, and white supremacists are not cartoon villains. They are real people who really are just fine with other people dying and suffering to protect their race/country. They exist in this real world and have real goals which really do include mass murder. You sound like a man who'd say 'we can't persecute people who spread nazi ideology and openly admit they are nazis because we can't know they're going to commit mass genocide again because they haven't done so yet -- even though that's more or less exactly lined up with their ultimate goal'. Does Trump allowing people to suffer and die in concentration camps go against the message he's trying to spread? They feel immigrants are coming to their country because they feel it is safe to immigrate there. Therefore, since that's their objective, then surely what they're attempting to demonstrate is that they're going to make it unsafe. Just the same way that Trump thinks he can stem people seeking refuge and asylum in America from coming to our borders by visiting such atrocities on them that it therefore makes them reconsider coming in the first place.
Pointing out a hyperbolic statement as hyperbolic isn't defending the person that the statement is against. The truth is important, and so is staying grounded in it.
Sure, but it wasn't a hyperbolic statement. She is literally a white supremacist. She thinks immigrants are 'barbarians' who are 'ruining everything'. Don't take my word for it, she literally wrote a book about it. She tweeted that she was “Officially banned from UK for ‘racism’.. doing fine though, all the cool people are being banned anyway” Which cool people is she referring to? Could've been Richard Spencer - who was banned for it because he's a horrendous racist white supremacist. She went down to South Africa to make a documentary about farmers being killed due to a 'genocide' against white citizens due to it being 'a super right-wing ehtnostate'. So who did she go down there with? Simon Roche (white nationalist). Who did she interview while she was there? Members of extremist groups such as Dan Roodt (surprise, official of a white separatist group). Meanwhile Roche likes to boast that he's great at converting and courting right-wing people to his cause. It seems he likely has with Southern as she asked Andy Pires during a YT interview if he'd heard of a place called Orania. What's Orania? Here's what she says it is. “It’s probably one of the only places in the world where it’s a more Afrikaner community that’s only allowed white people there. It was the most bizarre place I have ever gone to in my entire life. I walked into the government office and the government office has a giant poster of Andrew Breitbart in it,” Southern said. After continuing to remark about how weird the town was, Southern later sarcastically said that “the reason Orania is so controversial in the documentary is just because the facts about it are really upsetting.” “I can’t even say it without knowing people are going to be offended, but they have a literally zero crime rate. I know that sounds horrible, but they do. They have a zero crime rate. It’s close to zero, other than a domestic here and there. Like, I spoke to them and I asked them multiple times—I went to the government and was like, ‘Are you serious? Tell me right now. You’re telling me you don’t have crime here.’ And they’re like, ‘No.’ And then I walk outside and everyone’s like, left the keys in their cars and everything, motorcycles, and I’m like—this is inherently offensive,” Southern said, sarcastically. And what is it actually? A town of some 1300 people who are exclusively white who quite literally are carrying on the spirit of apartheid's white minority rule. Don't believe me? Here's what the locals say about apartheid: "We are not against black people. We are for ourselves." "I see nothing wrong with apartheid." Of course you get the petty apartheid: 'You use this toilet I use that toilet', I don't think that was necessary but the real apartheid as Dr Verwoerd saw it, there was nothing wrong with it.' That's right, that's a guy literally saying the problem with apartheid was simple segregation. These are the sorts of people Southern decided to say 'this place is controversial because the facts about it are really upsetting'.
Im more concerned with what is true and can be proven tbh. If someone keeps telling stuff that they cant prove or can be proven dubious by logic, they might create a situation where no one believes anything they say anymore, even though ideologically they do have a point.
I don't think you are when you hand-wave situations like this and say 'well who can really know what the outcome would be'. Who can really know what the outcome would be if I fired a bullet into another man's skull? I mean, there's all chance that he might be totally fine afterwards so nobody should say I attempted murder because that's not true until he dies -- you can't prove to anyone I would've killed him unless he died, right?
we're banning nazi and white supremacist sympathizers now?? what a fuckin echo chamber amirite boyos
Next we'll be banning murderers and rapists! What a world!
alt of who though?
"Gas the kikes doesn't objectively mean kill all jews"
I'm amazed that these people are coming back but also they thought they would get away with using basically the same user name.
Blizzard. Infamous for stupid posts like the one above, and audaciously claimed he was an embassy worker at the American embassy in brussels.
https://twitter.com/classiclib3ral/status/1023002417703661568 Proving herself to be an intelligent individual :^)
Your article proved nothing of the sort. I think it is extreme of you to imply that anything in that article is close to mass murder.
As an aside, Salon is very biased - https://i.imgur.com/AEGhcvo.png
I just used the Salon article because it was the first one I found that linked her own footage of the attack.
Either what it posts is fact or not, left or right here is irrelevant
lakemba is not that fucking bad, i had some friends who lived there in high school who i hung out with a bunch. walked around at night time and felt safe.
can we make all of Australia a “no-go zone” for these idiots
