Somehow, this is Donald Trump's fault!
I didn't even know what kind of "paperwork" you meant, which is why I asked multiple times. I'm not gonna look through a bunch of articles to figure out what you meant when I can just ask - first result on your search doesn't include a word about it, second one mentions this: "But dozens of parents were misled or coerced into being deported without their children, according to a new lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union. Some say their paperwork about their children was taken from them, while others had no paperwork about their children at all." Which doesn't mean that "no paperwork was kept", but alright, the daily beast had that information. Thanks, now I get what you meant. And no, I actually didn't know about that. Thanks for the hostility. "Insist others educate you" lmao, I'm asking a question and you volunteer an answer - anyone reasonable would ask for a source on that answer, unless it's blindingly obvious. What claims have I made exactly? I posted some numbers because they didn't match what elix posted, you told me the numbers were basically just bullshit because ICE was "less transparent" than under Obama, and you've yet to back that up with anything concrete. And how do you know that? Do you have an actual proper, journalistic source that says that ICE is now reporting numbers differently (or omitting some, or whatever other manner of creative book keeping you could imagine)? You say I'm making claims, but you're actually making a claim here, and you haven't posted anything but your good word to back it up. If you can't or simply won't, just stop posting about, because I'm not gonna just take your word for it. Take your own tip and don't make claims on a topic you don't seem to actually know anything about. This is not how discussions work - if you make a claim, it's your job to back it up. If I claimed pigs could fly it wouldn't be your job to find a scientific paper debunking that claim, because it'd be a waste of your time. You're calling me a skeptic, but you won't take numbers that reputable news sites accept. I wanna know why, and all you can come up with is "it's common knowledge". I honestly don't think I'm being overly skeptical here. You're seeing enemies where there are none in my opinion.
If the child was not separated from the mother it is unlikely the child would have been abused as someone would've been watching the child. Since Trump mandated the separation of children from their mothers -- even in this case where there should've been zero chance at prosecution given that they correctly entered at a port of entry and immediately presented papers to that end to file for asylum -- then, yes, Donald Trump is directly at fault for this. Without his mandate, that situation would not have likely ever occurred.
Of course if there were two dozen articles posted on Facepunch in the past few months which were referencing proof that pigs could fly then the issue would fucking be with me not bothering to get off my useless lazy ass and educate myself before saying something retarded, huh? It's clear you're not going to be convinced you're wrong here though so I'm done. Good job cementing my opinion of you rather than actually combating it thus ensuring I don't take you seriously in the future.
Getting information out of you is like squeezing water from a rock. I hope elix shows up with a single link to show where his numbers came from or a “i was just guesstimating” so you’ll see how easy all of this could’ve been.
It's almost like you're trying to miss the point I've been making repeatedly.
Look, dude, sometimes people get the wrong impression of each other. I'm not trying to be willfully obtuse, and chances are, you aren't either. If you don't want to discuss with me any further, that's alright. It's pretty clear we're just not on the same wavelength, and I hope I can show you that I'm not some immovable rock as you seem to think. I suggest we bury whatever axe is getting flung around here.
I'm probably wildly off on numbers because I'm drawing on things I read in WaPo articles from like 3 months back. "Order of magnitude" was obviously completely misremembered and overexaggerates reality. The stats you provide adequately explain my points on a factual level rather than the (unintentionally) hyperbolic numbers I was throwing out to support them. My numbers may have been way off due to the vagaries of memory, but the point is that ICE was already a shitty organization, but with Trump's open embrace of racist anti-immigration agendas they've felt more empowered to deliver on their agenda. FP has seen many stories like "man delivered pizza to a military base and then was arrested and handed over to ICE for deportation", where productive law-abiding but undocumented residents, who would likely be American citizens in a more welcoming immigration process, are being rounded up and treated like a dangerous threat and in need of removal on par with actual violent-criminal illegals who should be given a swift kick out of the country. It's not even "wtf I love child rape now" but more "lol see I told you all immigrants from the southern border are rapists" while completely ignoring that this child was sexually abused in a government facility and ultimately their President is responsible. The notion of condoning the abuse is secondary to the fact that they see it as confirmation of their racist worldview and a reason THE WAAALLLLLL should be built. I don't have anything documenting specific coverups or failure to report arrest/apprehension counts, but on the family separation thing, it's a disaster. The family-separation process was something that had never been done before and there were zero established processes for it. There was no entry in the databases for tracking children or parents of separated family units. They rushed a program into effect with zero preparation and the result was a total clusterfuck, with tedious manual case file digging to match up parents and their children. https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/social-issues/deleted-families-what-went-wrong-with-trumps-family-separation-effort/2018/07/28/54bcdcc6-90cb-11e8-8322-b5482bf5e0f5_story.html The Trump admin also deported 460+ parents back to their countries of origin without their children, in effect kidnapping the children and keeping them in the US. So that's cool. http://time.com/5347015/trump-family-separation-parents-deported/
American Democracy doesn't fucking work anymore. We'd need massive reform in order to solve the problems rampant throughout our country, reform that simply wouldn't pass because it takes 10 fucking decades and 20489089689437628 different presidencies in order for it to see the light of day. Compare this to Europe, a continent who, despite their problems, has there shit together. The age of American dominance is over, fellas, time to pack it up.
That's what concerns me, if we're not at the top we're at the bottom. If American Exceptionalism doesn't work anymore and people have to face the issues with the country, I fear things will get ugly.
It’s pretty late here, but thanks, that’s all (and more than) I wanted - I hope I didn’t come across as not thinking the situation isn’t fucked up, because that definitely wasn’t my intent.
American Exceptionalism is what set us back, it caused us to ignore our issues by saying "yeah no man it'll just solve itself america #1 !!!!!!" I love the USA, but the way out Government works is the root of the problem. It was created to prevent a problem that hasn't been a problem since the First World War. This style of Government has caused the populace to take sides and ignore the opposite viewpoint, something our founding fathers were staunchly against. The USA isn't a bastion of Democracy, fighting against the fascist/commie/monarchist hordes. It's now just a divided superpower in the West, comparable to Tsarist Russia. There's one thing, though, that's quite relaxing is the American ability to recover from times such as these. We're going to survive people.
No need to be daft, sources are important and it would have been great if you posted them too. Most people here take your side on this whole thing, but how do you expect us to convince family members of things like this without sources and actual hard evidence? It's not a matter of him trying to be contradictory or difficult/skeptical, it's a matter of him purely wanting sources and you're just kinda not accepting that. You're acting like he's willfully not believing you because he has an ulterior motive instead of wanting sources like a rational person who wants to base their opinions and thoughts off of factual evidence.
I really wish this phrase hadn't shifted from its original meaning of "being an exception to the rule," as in being different, to meaning "being exceptional," as in being the best.
It is, in the same sense that if the USA went to war over nothing each American casualty would be the President's fault. Like - for instance - Bush's illegal (according to international law) invasion of Iraq. In that previous example, Bush isn't lining up each American soldier in the White House's backyard to execute them personally but in a larger sense his decisions directly led a loss of life when such a thing was entirely avoidable had he not taken that path.
The only thing I still don't understand is why US citizens allows all that and don't fight back ?. If that had happened in another country, I'm sure at least the president would have resigned and the organism dissolved of such a scandal under interrogation and mass arrests, but as in US (I'm not judging all US citizens to be like that.) is "Was the child American?, no ? Well, I don't care." "He was Mexican/Immigrant that doesn't matter to me at all" or "Oh Yes Trump and ICE but Hillary......" Well, t_d's are really lunatic who don't seem to get their heads out of their asses and see the reality that are supporting such a lunatic That kind of thing makes more than one hate more and more US
"Too big to fail" doesn't just apply to megacorporations.
Fuck Trump, fuck the GOP and fuck anyone else who has been complicit in this including the American public which gave the man his platform to begin with and so easily fell to his spoonfed bullshit. The entirety of the royal court needs cleaning out one way or the other and this shouldn't soley go by party. The GOP and DNC both need the trash burning out to allow for figures with some measure of integrity and at this stage I'd honestly think at times the US would be better off if the entirety of Trump's cabinet was smoked out with only Mattis left as the Designated Survivor.
I'm sorry guys, buy you really have to go back on the streets and protest this. If you just stand by this and not show how disgraced you are by this you'll be looked foul at by future generations. Please for the love of god, go out to the streets. Trump supporter or not, this is unacceptable, anyone can see it. I'm not even talking about this incident, it's the whole current ICE situation. Please, please, please stop it. I'm not a fan of immigration to my own country, but this would be about 100 steps way too far. I also realize it's easy for me to talk, because I'm all the way across the ocean. But I'd love to see a change in this and not hear any more of these stories. Not because they're being suppressed, but because they're being solved or a reasonable alternative is found
Most people can't go spend all day at a protest because they have jobs and people can fire you for almost any reason.
Yeah I realized that as I said it. Is there any way to get unions to protest this? Are they invested in any way to get this to happen?
Unless you wanna start one, no. It's sad but true.
Union power has taken a total nosedive for the last 50 years, unions are the enemy of the rich, it was inevitable.
Thats pretty horrible and I feel for you guys. I hope you'll find a way to protest or make your voice heard that is helpful in a meaningful way. Is there any officials US citizens could complain/voice their opinion to? I mean if enough people say they want something and official might be inclined to speak up and try get some more votes for their reinstatement that way?
Their Senators, who presently are doing a great job of not speaking to them, refusing to meet constituents in offices about these things (and instead having them arrested for loitering about), and generally putting out bullshit distracting statements and e-mails about how 'your concerns aren't actually concerns - instead because concerned about these concerns which make me rich or empower Trump/republicans'. They won't make a single move so long as Trump's base continues to prop them up because given the choice between retaining power or kicking a dangerous President out of the white house, they would choose to retain power every time.
The largest protest in US history happened during this administration, if Mueller or Rosenstein are fired that record would be met again. DC is the most Dem leaning part of the country, 90% of the population hates his guts.
Unions have nosedived because general support for unions has nosedived.
Likely from propaganda and things like right-to-work laws that sound positive.
Of course, because when people disagree it must be because they're brainwashed. It can't have anything do with the absolutely stupid crap unions constantly pull nowadays.
It can't be 85% Column A and 15% Column B. No, perish the thought, it can only be Column B.
