Nixon got word that Johnson was going to do a last minute effort to win the election for Humphrey by ending the war, Nixon got a woman with connections in Asia, Anna Chennault to keep him appraised of the
situation. She told Nixon that the president of South Vietnam had no intentions of a peace conference.

After Johnson ordered the halt he ordered an illegal FBI wiretap on Nixon staff and Chennault, and got this
