Misogyny could become hate crime as legal review is announced

Management at the place is historically racist, misandrist, and the upper level management is misogynist.
not really sure how the place still functions, but it's a much nicer place to work at than a lot of the alternatives (I actually like most of my coworkers, excluding the bossperson who only thinks about herself)
I agree with you completely on everything else but this one was actually my yikes.
Lambeth was right to call me out for that specific incident.
Did you miss the part of me getting laughed at for being raped/molested as a dude? Any method you've suggested on here has gotten me nowhere meanwhile the method that I've explained has actually gotten people to understand my problems and actually take me seriously.
Dude I'm sorry that happened to you and I'm a huge advocate for the recognition of the reality of sexual assault against men but this has nothing to do with whether or not we should accept discriminatory laws.
i already said the law isn't perfect. But its pretty much the only way we can start combating sexism. Deal with Misogyny today, the entirety of sexism tomorrow. Cause given societal norms. Making a law where declaring all sexism is terrible ain't going to fucking work. Given societal norms. Cause the more we keep complaining, nothing is going to get fucking done.
I understand this sentiment. This angle only works from the aproach that all of society only cares about Misogyny. Which is true. That's why people are getting pissy about it. It's a good decision in the context of Britain-s already existing harassment laws. But it's really fucking shitty that society requires that it be focused squarely on women instead of all-inclusive.
I mean. this is a case where the general populace's subconscious bias against men actually hurts non-binary people instead when it should actually be a non-issue from the start.
It's what makes it systemic sexism against men and even if that was something we were all for, for some fucked reason, it's a total misfire and there's so much collateral damage that it should be reconsidered. At least make the law more fully misandrist, so the net hits as few as possible. Control the spread.
Alright dude we're fundamentally in disagreement at a really low level here
You do you I guess
Okay, I can sorta get behind that.
But allow me to suggest something here:
Why not do both?
Like seriously. Why not do your way of getting more people to change their viewpoint regarding sexism, while still advocating for this law being written to be about sexism in general and not just Misogyny? This way, more & more people will be aware of these issues, and we’re still taking care of a law that, again, will just cause more problems than solving.
Like of course. I fully agree that it should be everyone. I completely understand that. Like christ i bleed my heart out explaining how much i got fucked over due to being a guy for the last two pages when it came to sexism shit. Sexism should be discourage in all forms.
My explanation is that this is a step in the right direction. Of course the law isn't perfect and could possibly be abused. But its SOMETHING. Like people still have the ability after this passes to look into improving on it or adding laws where its universal in dealing with Sexism. Like you got a foundation, where if you push forward you can either make it a fucking tower of Babel. Or Barad-dur where it falls apart and shatters.
I agree with Geel that i should be universal, but that shit wont pass given from my experience of how people view sexism towards men.
A law that punishes gender-based hate crimes wouldn't pass?
Why the hell wouldn't it?
Because people need to, unfortunately, first be educated on the simple fact that men get discriminated too. Because I haven't seen much of that
Guess what, men's problems still aren't widely taken as seriously as women's. Toxic masculinity and whatnot
This bill passed. Why would it not pass with protections for MORE people? That would likely get MORE support.
No, you don't get it, why wouldn't a gender neutral wording of the law pass? It doesn't even need people to acknowledge that both genders can be discriminated against.
I really don’t see why we should keep making discrimation a legal thing for any reason
You know i barely fucking remember anything that happened yesterday in this thread. I sorta got in a Adderall rut.
women are far more likely to be the recipient of gendered hate crime
However, male victims do still exist
Why make one illegal and not both? I think we can all agree that all of the hate crimes this bill covers aren't good no matter who they're pointed at.
