Majority of French no longer see US as trusted ally: poll

America has changed massively since WW2. In some ways for the better, but in most for the worse. I don't think even most Canadians really think of the US as a reliable ally under this administration. More of a massive liability and security risk.
Don't blame us, blame Trump and his base, i'm confident that if we can get trump and the repubs in power out, and put professionals back in who know how to be diplomatic and cooperative, it wouldn't take long to earn their trust back. I hope..
It won't mean much if it can all be completely reversed once again 5 years later. You need to fix your broken political system.
By only three million, I think you mean...
250 years of diplomacy, down the drain
What would you suggest? Not being snarky, genuinely curious.
Imo, the entire R party needs dissolved, it's way too corrupted to make any sort of comeback.
Plus rampant voter supression and germandering
Through policy, this administration has been quite stable because Trump is not really in charge of anything that is done. In fact, a lot of what is implemented is counter to Trump because powers have been delegated to people who are knowledgeable in their field. Our huge downfall is his constant divisive rhetoric. He is constantly acting like a baffoon and treating the presidency with no respect at all.
From what I've seen, Nikki Haley would make much more sense as a leader of the Republican party.
Solely from the news I read I see US as a failed democracy with movie villains leading it and making decisions along with one the shittiest healthcare for its citizens.
This is going to be something that plagues US diplomatic relations for a fair while now. Trump's treated close allies like such shit and I have no doubt the next president will have to do much to rebuild bridges but the most crippling part is going to be the lack of trust when in another term you could just get another complete flog to fuck everything again.
when you've managed to piss off the country that literally helped to found your nation you know you've fucked up
A lot of the US doesn't actually know that nearly the entire reason the US exists at all is because of France
The common view is either bland ignorance, rude Frenchmans HONH HONH WINE, the cheese eating surrender monkeys SAVED HYUR ASS IN DUBYA DUBYA TEWH narrative, with all sorts of cross pollination between the three
Mostly because the US educational system doesn't teach history worth shit, and people get the broad strokes from popular entertainment media, which largely minimized or outright erases France's role in favor of some good old fashioned American exceptionalism
It's one of the saddest things, really. By all rights, France should be far more than just an ally to the US
Honestly can't blame you. I don't think you should trust us until we fix our electoral system and inoculate this bullshit.
Just like what some others said (I think), what's stopping a smart fascist from ruining everything in the United States, causing the US to become a true fascist country?
If being the operative word there.
And this.
That's what truly worries me. To the point that I fear it's absolutely inevitable now. Trump and the new GOP showed everyone how easy it would be to demolish any weak illusion of freedom that remained in the USA, and he's a brainless degenerate. Until now everyone just assumed the country had enough safeguards in place to prevent someone like him taking so many liberties, but now we know for certain that nobody is driving. I can guarantee that the next person who wins an election leading the GOP will be worse. Much worse.
The UK is honestly planning to fly up into the extremes of the Northern Hemisphere since Brexit. Our economy will be fine selling fish and chips to Inuits.
