Has anyone else noticed how close libertarians and fascists are in their beliefs? I've followed the Libertartian Party on Facebook and some of the people they share are "Libertarian" members that may as well be under the BNP banner
Y'all complaining about this being a "dangerous echo-chamber" and "unnecessary" need to grow some backbone. I no longer consider myself leftist, but personally if there was a "rightychat" I would gladly get involved in arguing with you guys on your "home turf" just as much as I would in here because that's the bloody point of discourse. Where else are you guys going to discuss irrelevant or off-topic left/right ideals than in a designated spot for exactly that. Just because it's not a designated safe-space for your dumb arses doesn't mean it shouldn't exist, and, more to the point, absolutely nobody's stopping you from calling out something you think is bollocks just because your beliefs differ. Get real.
Pretty much everyone saying this is a bad idea are left wing. There's no need for a thread like this, all it can do is harm.
It is significantly left-leaning. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/1195/86047fc4-5197-46f5-89e2-5ac031fd63ef/456.PNG

There isn't any place on the forum to discuss politics at the moment, and what is the better place to do so than in "polidicks". This is quite literally the place to discuss with like-minded people and debate with others. If you ask me this place and also real life needs some peaceful discussion where we can exchange views.
Currently I think it’s a good idea. Resources and reading are good for everyone, lefty or not. I say we see how it goes.
If you think people are only objecting to the idea because they are in some way offended, it's because you are chronically missing the point. Nobody has said that it is automatically an echo chamber, they have said that threads like this tend to devolve into echo chambers As a matter of fact, I have never seen a single thread like this not transform into total hugbox. It does not even have to happen by explicit design. Once a certain segment of users settle in and make themselves loud enough, people give up bothering, and creating something for a political niche tends to attract these types like flies to shit. Take for example, /pol/. Sure, you can technically say what you want, but do you really want to have to deal with wall-to-wall shitposting by the dominant political circlejerk so that 1 or 2 people (if you are lucky) talk to you in good faith?
Regardless if this is a good idea or not there is one glaring issue I see. I don't personally agree with including Peter Coffin as a resource. He's had a long history of cringy humor and just downright sad stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Di56tuVnFZs Considering he quit his job drunk off the attention that kicking himself in the nuts on national television. I don't really think he's probably the best person to trust? I mean I personally haven't watched any of his new stuff but for anyone wanting to have a moment of "oh fuck, its that guy" heres a more "memorable" video that hasn't been deleted by peter trying to hop on to the "hello i discuss politics now please give me patron money" train. https://youtu.be/5ffZgq3yvB0 Overall I know it isn't fair to judge someone on their past but my god does the "failing internet comedian who threw a bitch fit anytime a slight inconvenience came his way" thing doesn't really make his current facade more digestible.
Contrapoints? The Sargon of the left? That's a reliable source? Really?
Care to elaborate? Ive only heard good things about contrapoints until now.
This is such a useless thread lol
The addition of the leftist political commentators are what made me feel queezy to be honest. I consider myself leftish and I hate about half of those people with a passion and not a fan of political commentators in general. I take offense enough to news channels giving me their opinions, people providing you the information shouldn't be the one telling you how to use it. Political commentators are in the same breed in having a one way conversation with the audience about their theatrically overblown opinions and enthusiasm on important political matters. Sure you can learn a thing or two but at that point you're also thinking at least a bit more like they do on the subject. I'm cool with this stuff in absolutely anything except politics. One exception I take to this so far is Jonathan Pie. John Oliver is also brilliant for information as his team digs pretty deep into history and the details. General rule of thumb for me at least though is to avoid these like the plague.
On top of this, Youtube ranters tend to provide extremely surface level, often incorrect information, too. Which is generally heavily marked by their own biases. They're fine if you want to jerk yourself off to "FUCK YEAH LOOK HOW RIGHT I AM, SOMEONE AGREES", but godawful if you actually want to learn or show anything. Peter Coffin is a particularly bad example of this, being one hilarious embarrassment after the other into riding the train for Patreonbux. I find it hard to believe anyone would take him seriously when you can get the few reasonable things he says from practically anywhere else.
I'm very left leaning in my country but some americans think I'm centrist or even conservative 👍
Not even Shaun or Threearrows recommended? What kind of shitty Lefty chat is this?
Yeah, nah. The BOARD USERS were fairly reasonable and were open to debate, but the board owner threw a tantrum and tried to remove the vast majority of them for joking about Stalinists and not accepting the bizarre "u have to support iran and zimbabwe or ur evil imperialist". Over two thirds of them have left, all the original posters have left, and the few who remain contain heavy amounts of individuals who joined due to /r/socialism drama or C-ville related drama and do not quite understand that you are meant to debate and not just spam reports. Additionally, the old moderation team, who refused to uphold the unmentioned rules effectively banning debate, have almost all been demoted, save for two. Now the Board Owner's Twitter buddies do most moderating. They don't actually care about the board, so they rarely log in, but when they do, they immediately move to ban anyone who makes fun of their opinions. A board moderator who was immediately banned and demodded summarized it pretty well. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/237168/b7fec0ec-ae43-428e-a082-6c262f03b89b/BO%20MARX%20SHILL.png Besides the history, what exactly made the board so "open" to begin with is that it attracted literal thousands of people from entirely different "sects" who all absolutely hated each other's guts. Nobody could get too comfortable because they would be torn down by someone else criticising them for X Y Z. There are nowhere near enough differing opinions here for that to happen. You aren't going to have the problem of a board owner seeking a hugbox, but you are very likely going have the problem of users mostly agreeing with what one another have to say. Beyond that, the board had a constant stream of lolberts and neo-nazis from the other political boards, who would try to "debate", get scared off, but then learn a little and would, after some time of rinse and repeat, eventually come back with points that were not just "big gubmint" and "jews". With the response the thread has got, why would people even care enough to put in this much effort? And seeing that even a board created essentially on principles of open debate can be co-opted despite a hostile atmosphere against it, what hope does this thread have?
Not even including Citations Needed smh
what about unruhe as a recommendation??
Fuck me. Imagine being this objectively wrong. Daring to compare Contra to Carlgon is a fucking embarassement my dude. Carl is a complete shithead who argues (well, "argues") points from absurd positions, refuses to even read the sources he cites (he has repeatedly cited source totally at odds with his point as if they support him after all) and has steadily moved so far right that he's now the fucking social media spokesperson for the UKs far right party. Contrapoints, comparatively, can actually source the shit Natalie speaks about and at least puts some fucking semblance of effort into showing her working. Whilst trying to help people understand the nightmare that is the fragmentation of the various left leaning ideologies. (oh and, y'know, sargon is clickbait garbage)
This post was 2 Sargons too long; didn't read.
Shit, sorry. I'm out of form. WHAT ABOUT THOSE DURN LEFTIES HUH??!?
Hi fellow left-leaning posters, how awesome is universal healthcare and other asecpts of social welfare, right? Let's complain about old, conservative people. I hate them!
Cuck Philosophy is turning out to be great as well. There's also libertarian socialist rants which, back in the day, is what led me to becoming a commie until I began hating the poor and became a liberal again.
Three Arrows is one of the best channels on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCT8a7d6S6RJUivBgNRsiYg
I get called a fascist by 'other' leftists because I believe that violence is sometimes (and unfortunately) unavoidable and that we will never be rid of nuclear weaponry despite its evils. Just throwing my hat out there to the general "griping about labels" stuff.
let's all talk about how much smarter we are than the evil conservatives who are too dumb to see how bad their policies are >:( stupid conservatives >:( ruining everything >:(
Mind telling me what the benefit of no gay marriage is? What the benefit of no social services is? What the benefit of less immigration is? What the benefit of no abortion is? Or how about the benefits of less environmental protection laws, while your country watches as the great barrier reef dies before your very eyes?
don't worry, once all the conservatives leave it will be a thread reserved solely for NPCs
Well this thread is going well...
