The only problem with the state vs fed thing is that there are so many annoying aspects as someone who travels, has moved from state to state.
like the fact that since I moved to Cali and then back to anew York, I needed a new car registration and license which cost a butt fuck amount of money instead of there just being a US drivers license.
The fact that weed is legal in some states and then you can drive over next door and get sent to prison.
I hate that shit.
‘One gratifying aspect of our rise to some prominence is that, for
the first time in my memory, we, “our side,” had captured a crucial word
from the enemy . . . “Libertarians” . . . had long been simply a
polite word for left-wing anarchists, that is for anti-private property
anarchists, either of the communist or syndicalist variety. But now we
had taken it over. . .’ [The Betrayal of the American Right, p. 83]

What's the ideological demographics of the group? Is it mostly libertarian capitalists, libertarian socialists, a mixed bag, or is the focus something specific like just empowering local control and let them handle economics?
that is an extreme annoyance, I agree. ideally, a federal government would be responsible for licensing and car registration, as that would increase the cohesiveness of the country as a federal entity, but that isn't how it works here.
i still reserve doubts about the efficiency and capacity of our system of government to govern over a nation as populus (and politically-divided) as our own.
No, it's akin of the left saying anything conservative is essentially fascism or the right saying anything liberal is communist.
If you don't like an ideology, you demonize it with name calling it its most extreme branch.
As I understand, libertarianism is more of the idea that you are free to do as you wish so long as you do not infringe on the freedoms and rights of others. That includes not threatening others, yelling fire in a crowded room, and I believe causing environmental damage as well.
The government's primary role would be in protecting the liberties of citizens and enforcing things like contracts and debts and would allow for state and local governments more power over its citizens, while the federal government would have less power and responsibilities.
I know a lot of liberationists and literally none of them believe in anarchy and most would not subscribe to an Ayn Rand Objectivism, they just feel that giving the government more power leaves citizens with less freedom generally.
I hate that too, but remember if states didn't have some autonomy over the federal government, weed would be illegal nationwide as it is still illegal on the federal level. https://www.vox.com/cards/marijuana-legalization/marijuana-schedule
For me its when you are causing harm, physical, mental or emotional or abusing the rights of another individual.
I think my particular brand of libertarianism can be described as being a Tenther.
For non-Americans, that is a stress of the Tenth Amendment of the US Bill of Rights which specifically says that powers specifically not said in the federal constitution are specifically reserved to the states and people.
Anybody here Libertarian who is for regulation on environmental safety and healthcare?
I would lean libertarian, but I think there should be some regulations. To what degree, I'm not entirely sure, but environmental issues do have externalities. A factory dumping waste in a lake affects people, unchecked smog affects the health of people, therefore people shouldn't have the freedom to do whatever they want in the environment because it affects other people.
Healthcare is a bit more complicated. I am totally for a government provided healthcare option, I just don't think you should be forced to be a part of it. I'd say let private companies try and compete with the government provided healthcare, either they provide a cheaper/better service or they go out of business.
Some libertarians support environmental regulations because air pollution and chemical runoff migrate away from your property and onto others. Healthcare is something I think is a human right and is why I'm hesistant to call myself libertarian.
Me
I think I sort of fall into many Libertarian ideals, but I do see Healthcare as a right, and Environment Policy necessary.
Otherwise, Have yer Guns, Smoke yer Weed, Be Gay, Trans, idgaf, less regulations on the middle class business owner, etc...
I wish the Libertarian Party would focus-fire their funding and campaigning on a single national office somewhere in the country, instead of half-ass running candidates for Senate, House, and Presidency without gaining any traction.
Take the state most likely to vote them in, like New Hampshire, and just dump all the funding they have into campaigning for a senate seat or something.
