Back is a bit of a strong word, I mostly peek my head in every now and then because I find the forum has become more tolerable since it was way more gamergateish a few years ago. I remember we had some posters constantly go out of their way to post "woman did something bad" articles everyday in the Sensationalist Headlines. But anyway yeah I strongly agree with what you've written.

I mean if you're talking about seizing the means of production or abolishing police, I'd say you're pretty far on the left. I'd say Facepunch fits in about half-way between the mid-line and far left. Obviously with some idiosyncrasies, but still.

Hell, I consider myself left-leaning but FP definitely changed my mind about guns (I am no longer vehemently against them). If we were so left-leaning as some people they we'd all be die-hard anti-gun advocates which is totally not the case.

Yeah same deal, the pro-gun posters on this site are very good at articulating their arguments and backing them up with factual information.

I mean unless the census has changed radically it’s like a 25-75 split in favour of more gun control here on fp. Personally I just don’t really see a realistic political path for more gun control in the US, so I honestly don’t find the discussion that interesting anymore. That hasn’t really changed my mind about what laws should be enacted ideally. I used to argue about it a lot on here like 4-5 years ago, though. I don't you can pick out singular issues like that and say FP isn’t that left aligned, either - FP’s demographics are (nationality aside) very homogenous, so that allows for some idiosyncratic views that you wouldn’t see in a more representative, left-leaning population.

Honestly, from the name of this thread, this is pretty much exactly what I'd expect. This thread has pleasantly surprised me with the amount of civil discussion it's generated, and in particular the meta-discussion it's formed about discussion the political demographics of the forum and even individual posters' political views. To be honest, I wish we had more threads like this. This thread has honestly been a refreshing read for me.

This doesn't really tell us much because both you and sgman are some of the rightest leaning members of this board. Probably due to my lack of free time. In the course of the past 2 years, I went from a part time job with a girlfriend to a 45-50 hour full time job with a wife. I don't have very much free time left to write extensively on Facepunch anymore, or even to lurk half the time. Sorry if my quality has dimmed; I have a problem articulating a point without giving a large amount of detail to what I mean and since I haven't time to write details, I suppose my posting quality has dropped.

That period was fairly boring though, the only memorable moment I had on FP was when Tudd posted an alt-right crowdfunding video that he thought was interesting and I got it taken down for copyright lol

That's pretty understandable. Since the switch to the new forums and all the bullshit around that even my own post quality has dropped some. I try to post decently when actually debating but it's not uncommon for me to just drop a single line shitpost in an attempt to be funny anymore.

I legitimately didn't know this. People really weren't kidding back then when they said that you could come back on an alt and the staff would be fine with it.

So long as you didn't make waves with the alt, the mods probably didn't know half the time anyway. I doubt they made an effort to background check every new account.

Sometimes! I was permabanned a while ago for posting that cat in lmao pics even though I knew it was bannable (I uh wasn't really that mentally healthy at the time, looking back on it.) I did try to come back on an alt once but got IP banned immediately. I think mods really hated that meme or something.
