Clearly Mitch McConnell still thinks they can shove Kavanaugh through, otherwise he wouldn't bother
I can't believe the guy who said it should be legal to masturbate in public turned out to have fucked up attitudes toward sexual assault victims
If Democrats ever get the power to actually impeach him, I don't see why they wouldn't do the same for Thomas, and for Roberts, Alito, and Gorsuch (double whammy for Brett) for being appointed by illegitimate presidents. The entire conservative wing of the court would be gone
Serious question: Other than the accusation, what reason is there to believe that her claim is true as stated? We have all the other known corroborating witnesses claiming they weren't there or that it didn't happen, including her own friend, we have the accused denying it completely, etc. What has she provided that overcomes these things? I honestly don't understand how this is as clear cut as you're all making it seem.
Yeah it'd be nice if we had some sort of FBI investigation to clear things up.
I think it would really dangerous to impeach any of them without proof that they were individually guilty of high crimes, but I really don't get Roberts and Alito, what's your thinking there?
We have someone who has a signed affidavit and security clearance for the DHS saying he did the same shit to her.
If Democrats were to get that many seats, and considering how polarized everything is, the wounds of the 2000 election and Bush v. Gore might come up again
Ford is unexpectedly credible, Republicans awkwardly embarrassed and choose not to ask her any questions. Kavanaugh either deflects questions or launches into unrelated anecdotes and oh by the way he likes beer but he's never been blackout drunk or woken up in yesterday's clothes in an unfamiliar place.
I swear to criminy if Kavanaugh gets elected tomorrow I'll fucking scream
Large part of it, Brett came off as the last person many would care to see in this position and there's a clear partisanship that republicans show in their actions over the years. I believe her as she came in without a shred of ambition and did all that was asked. Brett came in as knockoff Trump. I take Ford seriously because she was serious and did not break down. Brett not only acted without a shred of what should be in one of the top judges, but didn't answer binary questions with binary answers and heavy partisanship. Brett is a hack, Ford is someone worth her salt.
He also broke down into tears and sniffles a la Alex Jones, so either he's a pathetic conman or suffering from some form of food poisoning.
Can we get Ford in as a judge Instead of Brett?
They need to confirm him before October 5 or he won't be able to rule on Gamble v. United States, whether presidents can effectively block state level prosecutions with pardons, would cripple the Mueller investigation.
That's what the hearing was for, to motivate the start of an investigation but of course that goes against their plans, if he didn't do anything then they would have nothing to lose from an investigation and would only make his nomination easier to be accepted. Honestly after this shit show the rape claim shouldn't matter anymore for his nomination, he has clearly shown in this hearing that he is completely unfit for the Supreme Court, he is incredibly partisan and he has literally vowed fucking revenge on the Democrats.
Fun and nearly unbelievable fact: The position of SCOTUS Judge doesn't require any knowledge of the Constitution or the law. It's merely a suggestion that they have that knowledge. In fact, even more amazing is that the majority of Supreme Court Justices have lacked any or any substantial judicial experience -- and not just Justices but Chief Justices. Which means, really, Ford could be a SCOTUS Judge if she's offered the position, accepts it, and is confirmed.
Bush tried something like that with Harriet Miers, she got pulled for being such a buffoon
Aye, but in fairness: she was a buffoon. If you had, say, a Constitutional Lawyer with no bench or judicial experience whatsoever -- basically being entirely scholastic -- they'd probably easily clear the bar. Which means, one day, I hope like hell we get Obama as a Chief Justice.

I don't think he'd be chief since Roberts is only six years older then him, but he could very well take up Thomas's seat if he dies between 2021 and 2027.
So I read through all these responses multiple times, and you guys are really beating around the question. So far, from what we know right now, how is everyone so sure about what happened? There's real, undeniable corroborating evidence for Kavanaugh's side of the story, namely, the witness of everyone else at the party, including someone who is on Ford's side. They all claimed that they either weren't there or that it didn't happen. There is zero similar corroborating evidence for Ford's side of the story (correct me if I'm wrong). You can think Kavanaugh is an idiot, a jerk, and even an evil man. You can think that the GOP aren't interested in the truth (though I'm not sure how you could argue that any of the politicians are interested in the truth after this shitshow). Etc... and also think the evidence isn't there to declare him guilty of this crime. About the whole FBI thing: I wish that they had just subpoenaed everyone involved, including Ford, Kavanaugh, Judge, etc. from the start, before we had rumors flying everywhere, but on the flip side, when you hold onto a possibly damning lead for as long as the democrats did, you can no longer blame anyone else for the lack of an investigation. If you're willing to blame both sides, then fine. I listened to the entirety of both Ford and Kavanaugh's hearings, and one thing I found very interesting is that there's no statute of limitations in the county that the supposed crime happened. So there isn't, and hasn't been, anything stopping Ford from going to the local police, whose jurisdiction this would be in anyway. Hell, the Montgomery police even stated that they would be happy to look into it if she came to them. I fear that she hasn't done so because there's nothing to go off of. She doesn't have a specific date, she doesn't have a specific location, she doesn't have any corroborating witnesses, she doesn't have a complete storyline, etc.
Can I get a quick recap of the last hour regarding the hearing?

brett kavanaugh is our large adult son
Tomorrow will show what the future US, and justice system will look like. I'm terrified.
Welp this might the Democrats mad enough to support court packing or court expansion if a Democrat wins the 2020 election.
Her testimony seems pretty genuine, given her behavior since the incident and the details in her testimony. She's discussed it in therapy and her allegations have been documented well before Brett was nominated. When he was potentially going to be nominated (his name was on the short list), she explained her process in trying to speak out about the incident and make her claims public. But I'm sure you're wanting to apply a much higher standard than that and treat this as if its a criminal trial on its own. This is not a criminal proceeding. Just as the Democrats on the committee have argued, this equates much more closely to a job interview. The fact that her claims alone are credible is enough reason that he should not be on the Supreme Court. The Senate could easily have withdrawn his nomination and selected another justice who is just as conservative, but instead they are intent on ramming him through the nomination process just so they don't have to deal with the consequences in the midterms. Asking questions like " how is everyone so sure about what happened?" is disingenuous and just about as helpful as the senator's today, because it completely ignores the larger context and is a misrepresentation of what most people in the thread are arguing.

Yeah, even forgoing the numerous claims of sexual assault with a large amount of corroborative evidence, this guy shouldn't be a Supreme Court justice. His behavior at the hearing was seriously unprofessional and revealed serious partisan bias.
Can some GOP senators please have a small amount of heart and vote against this man.
