Christine Ford/Brett Kavanaugh Senate testimony live thread

I'm fairly hopeful that Kavanaugh will be rejected.
What do you of Kavanaugh as a person though?
You're entire point was that I often play devil's advocate. I'm saying that isn't what I'm doing, and have never claimed to have done that.
I'm disagreeing with what you accused me of.
I wouldn't let this guy judge X-Factor let alone have a seat on the Supreme Court based on that performance.
The US has a moment today to prove to the world that justice for all isn't just a meaningless slogan when they vote for giving someone a seat for life.
Are they going to blow it again?
And you wonder why people don't like you?
Probably yes. The United States is on a decline and it's not going to get better until we've been truly humbled.
Every time you think you hit rock bottom, someone takes out a shovel.
We gotta solve these issues as soon as possible
I don't doubt his qualifications but his blatant partisan bias is worrying. Aren't you worried about a conservative bloc forming in the Supreme Court, especially if Ginsburg steps down before 2020?
I dunno, my read during the hearing was that he was an entitled, narcissistic piece of shit with a blatant chip on his shoulder against the Democrats.
I just don't get it.
If I was a Judge being nominated to the highest court in the country, I'd ask the Senate to postpone my vote and ask the FBI to look into it to clear my good name. Yes, it is unpleasant as all hell but to be put in the spotlight like that but I'd want to be cleared of any heinous allegations before being confirmed to such a position of prestige and honour.
His refusal to have the FBI investigate to clear his name is probably the most damning thing for him, followed by the authenticity of Dr. Ford's testimony compared to his bumbling, clumsy deflection of every question he was asked.
Look at all the women's palpable disgust in this picture:

Second blonde woman from the left isn't even trying to hide it and I love it.
This is prime Facebook cover photo material
Yes it is, because there's no context to it - it's prime time Facebook material.
When you discover that the women at the front to his left are his wife (Ashley Kavanaugh), his wife friend and his mother (Martha Kavanaugh), picking one frame out of 30-60 in a second, it's easy to put across a different slant.
So, it's probably not as damning as it appears in a single frame.
Honestly if his wife and her friend are making those expressions while he looks like that, it just gives the expression that he has troubles even with his own family. The guy's unable to be a decent human being even to his closest people.
Shit, his daughter had the balls to say 'I'm praying for the victim' to the bastard.
That's the whole point in publishing the photo and putting "disgust" as the strapline - to get people to add their own context and create an emotive back story.
There's enough negativity around Kavanaugh without having to create stuff.
Context is important and a single frame does not provide it. This is how fake news is created on Facebook and is allowed to propagate.
I know who the women are behind him - I was just posting it because it made me laugh.
and he polls are in;
this was all part of a democrat conspiracy to get revenge for hillary clinton.
yep that's the narrative that's sticking.
The attitude of most politicians in America, especially Republicans, is that laws are for poor people. FBI investigations are something that happens to "nobodies" and if it happens to a "somebody" it's only because they want to take that person down.
None of the witnesses contradict her testimony. Them not remembering is not the same thing as saying it didn't happen.
You are such a hack. If a left leaning judge was being accused by a credible person like Ford and showed the same level of partisan bias against the Republicans there's not a doubt in my mind you would call for an investigation and to delay or withdraw their confirmation.
And putting aside this whole scenario, Kavanaugh's judicial ideas alone should disqualify him. If you won't say whether or not the president can pardon himself, you are not fucking fit to be an arbiter of the law in a free society.
The vote is scheduled for 35 minutes from now

"There is no question that Judge Kavanaugh is qualified to serve on the Supreme Court."
Fucking excuse me? Was this guy not paying attention to how Kavanaugh acted in the hearing?
It's pretty blatant that the only qualification that matters to the Republican is "willing to shield dangerous presidents from the law while in office."
Well, yes, but you see... he acted like that towards the democrats.
Watch as Republicans will hit another low but we're still expected to treat them and their followers with respect.
Flake is voting to confirm
