It's all a test of how powerful Trump's ego is, will he be willing to sink Kavanaugh rather than admit he's wrong?
The 2 hour rule? What is this?
Holy shit this is fucked
MCCONNELLLLLLL
Grassley you slippery snail
Grassley is a slimy weasel.
Wait, what just happened? I assume nothing was confirmed.
What the fuck is the 2-hour rule? It hasn't even been 2 hours.
What the fuck is going in?
A week is also another week for public opinion to continue to drop away from Kavanaugh, and Trump will drop people he perceives as "losers" because he's the winning President and everything needs to be a win and everyone needs to be a winner.
Look at what he did to Ronny Jackson's career: set up for promotion to the VA because Trump liked him, the background vetting that didn't happen caught up and exposed a bunch of scandalous shit, and the poor boy ate a DEMOTION instead.
Trump is sensitive to his ego and the perception that he makes bad decisions, and he'll bury Kavanagh if the public cost of supporting him gets too high.
Can someone tl;dr this whole thing?
Basically, what happened is: Kavanaugh's confirmation moves to the Senate to be voted on there. Flake stated he (and others) will vote No in the Senate if there is no investigation from the FBI regarding specifically these latest claims for at least one week.
Grassley limpdicking out of this the same way he did during the initial Kavanaugh hearing a few weeks ago when there was an an attempt at voting on whether or not to dissmiss him as chairman.
I've been busy and unable to follow this super closely, did he really threaten revenge?
Did everybody even get to vote on the one-week FBI investigation? To me it seemed like they let most of them vote, then abruptly stopped to start chatting, then abruptly adjourned the whole thing 'because of the 2-hour rule'.
Sounds like a justice which will let his personal feelings impact his interpretation of constitutional law.
Sounds like someone who shouldn't be on the supreme court to me.
Standing in the atrium of the Hart Senate building overhearing press. Latest information is that Jeff Flake has voted YES on the committee vote, this moving the nomination out of committee and into the senate floor. HOWEVER he has stated he will not vote yes in the final vote unless the FBI background check has been reopened and requests a one-week “due diligence” delay. The White House has stated it is open to this delay. Collins and Murkowski are still UNDECIDED at this time.
Effectively, they have a 'gentleman's agreement'. It wasn't a part of the vote; Grassley made sure it wasn't.
Seems strange how the white house is open to a week delay. Unless they are scrambling to find another Justice to replace him or they really don't think the FBI will find anything.
A week long FBI investigation is a joke, its just say they can say "But he was investigated by the FBI and they didn't find anything". On top of that its a gentlemen agreement and we all know what can of gentlemen the GOP is.
At least it will motivate turnout and give the dems a better fighting chance for the senate.
The silver lining I see in a week delay is that Brett can't vote on the case that'll allow the president to pardon state level criminals, which would extremely hamper Mueller's investigation
