Normally when a woman keeps her maiden name part of her name after taking her husbands, both are considered her surname. Calling her Blasey Ford or just Ford are both acceptable. Even more so had she hyphenated.
If it was hyphenated then yeah. But it wasn't there so I just consider her last name to be Ford. I don't really know how it works, but my mom's middle name is her maiden name? So I figured it was similar.
This woman's middle name isn't Blasey though. My wife hyphenated her name. There were obstacles to it. Family and friends opposed it, institutes such as banks keep messing it up and I have heard stories from others that hyphenated of government clerks actively obstructing it. I can totally understand if she didn't want to hyphenate it, but it's still part of her surname.
The person Trump will probably pick if Kav is btfo is Amy Coney Barett, she's part of a Christian sect called the People of Praise. People of Praise practices a controversial form of spiritual direction that involves supervision of a member by a more spiritually mature person called a "head". People of Praise maintains that members retain their freedom of conscience under such direction. The community excludes women from the highest leadership positions and teaches that men are the spiritual leaders of their families. At the same time, it encourages women to pursue higher education and employment. Each member has someone called a "head", who acts as a personal adviser. In general, heads give encouragement, correction, and help in decision-making. Men have other men as their heads. Married women are headed by their husbands. Single women and widows usually have other women as their heads. Men and women with the appropriate skills are assigned as heads by the coordinators. The highest office a woman can hold in the community is "woman leader" (formerly "handmaid"). Women leaders "teach women on womanly affairs, give advice, help in troubled situations" and lead specialized women's activities. The term handmaiden was chosen in 1971 as a reference to Mary, the mother of Jesus, who in the Bible described herself as a "handmaid of the Lord" or a woman who is close to God.
Jeez, at this rate I'd just take an exact clone of Gorsuch. If we have to let Trump pick another conservative justice, can't the nominees be...I don't know, normal?
At face value, this doesn't look incredibly bad with having others help offer advice but it's going to become an incredible burden of the court if she relies on others to "help" her make SCOTUS decisions.
Kavanaugh’s Yale classmate, NC State prof says judge was heavy d.. Hmmmm
I am not even suprised. After all... ... He likes beer.
"I am told hu-mans enjoy consuming water containing ethanol. This makes me relatable and not creepy." I swear it sounds like he doesn't know it's possible to not be an alcoholic.
OH COME THE FUCK ON
The Trump administration has been trying to get to Gilead ever since Steve Bannon was in high-level national security meetings he had no business being in, that's one of the least surprising things. Depressing, but not surprising.
If this is true, shouldn't they be able to find this on record: When Brett got drunk, he was often belligerent and aggressive. On one of the last occasions I purposely socialized with Brett, I witnessed him respond to a semi-hostile remark, not by defusing the situation, but by throwing his beer in the man’s face and starting a fight that ended with one of our mutual friends in jail.”
Wouldn't that depend on whether he had charges filed against him?
When asked about Roe v Wade, she didn't flip flop on it like Kavanaugh seemingly did, and as far as we know she didn't sexually assault multiple people so that's a plus too. Going by the standards Republicans set themselves it should be a moderate but if I had to choose I'd much rather have Barrett.
She's written that she believes religion is a valid reason to recuse, so if the follows that she's better than Kav
Wow she seems like a huge weirdo
https://twitter.com/ProfMJCleveland/status/1046842589020925952 They're so desperate lmao
Conspiracy theories for a conspiracy theory administration.
https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/zoetillman/brett-kavanaugh-democrats-ethics-question-supreme-court The ethical sticking points for Kavanaugh are multifold whether he joins the Supreme Court or stays on the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit, where he currently sits. Kavanaugh's angry jabs at Democrats and liberal groups could be grounds for recusal requests in either court. Ethics complaints have been filed against Kavanaugh in the DC Circuit, including at least one claiming he lied about the sexual assault allegations against him. Ethics experts say there's no precedent for what happens to those complaints if he's elevated to the Supreme Court. For now, they're under the purview of the DC Circuit chief judge — former Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland. The irony
If Garland pushes Kavanaugh off the DC Circuit in the middle of this, the GOP will scream that the Dems are bent on revenge.
Looks like Kavanaugh's erection victory prospects have turned into Mr. Floppy: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/242634/af0f89d3-a294-4a87-bee4-36dc4b0d9c2d/image.png
It's looking like Senator Flake most likely will be a NO vote on the Senate floor. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/oct/01/jeff-flake-brett-kavanaugh-latest-boston-protests Touring parts of New England, in what is seen as a test of the waters for a possible run for president, Flake said at an event on Monday night in relation to the sexual allegations against Kavanaugh: “Any nominee who lies to the committee, that is disqualifying.” Flake told a crowd of young entrepreneurs attending a Forbesbusiness summit that his staff is in contact with White House counsel to make sure the investigation into accusations of sexual assault against Kavanaugh is “up to standard”.
Honestly, I wish Garland replaced Scalia and Gorsuch replaced Kennedy.
If the Republicans had just let Obama nominate Garland and gave him a standard hearing, instead of being hyperpartisan cunts who need to postpone the ball game until they're sure they can win it, few people would've cared about Gorsuch's nomination, and ol' "I like beer" Kavanaugh wouldn't even be in the headlines. All of this was entirely avoidable, and it happened because Republicans just can't bear the thought of not stacking everything as hard as possible to benefit them.
I'm not gonna hold my breath. He's disappointed me before, even though his insistence on the FBI investigation was a good step. Although if he goes through with saying "no" he could likely get people like Collins and Murkowski, in which case Kavanaugh is done for.
Remember when I brought up that Code of Conduct stuff? This is what happens when you violate it. https://lawandcrime.com/high-profile/brett-kavanaugh-slapped-with-two-official-ethics-complaints-in-d-c-circuit-court/

Posting this here because I don't really think it deserves it's own thread https://twitter.com/senorrinhatch/status/1047225465881202689 The GOP will cry foul if you're critical of Kavanaugh but will leap at the chance to slur his accusers. They're evil people.
I don't understand the point of that letter tbh, other than an attempt to be some kind of witness testimony, when it isn't. A) Julie never talked to me about if Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her B) Lol therefore the only sensible conclusion is that there is no reason to believe that she was sexually assaulted I don't get it at all.
To me that letter reads as a long form way to say "She's a slut, don't trust her".
