Politics is just a game to our society now.
People like Glaber and the other variety of posters who just want to rate their political opponents as children for being afraid of the consequences soon to come is just one aspect of that.
None of them will speak up with compentent coherent cogent arguments as to why this is okay. No, they'll just laugh because "own the libs" is now more important than any actual political goal.
You don't understand, we need EC because what would we do if we had equal representation. After all, its fair if some redneck up in a mountain in Wyoming has 4x the voting power than someone who lives in NY.
ye but the ny guy is a lib so its ok
#annihilated
The last time the court was this conservative was the Lochner era, 1900 to 1937, this combined with GOP control led to the Great Depression and Franklin Roosevelt. America was at risk of fascism like in Europe
at the time, but a strong message led to the New Deal. The economy trumps owning liberals to most voters, and the orange will handle recession like he handles everything, very poorly. Plus millions of people
hate his guts and will continue to hate his guts, on top of the fact that Trump won by a serious fluke because of the Rust Belt
We're in a completely different zeitgeist now than the early 20th century, America is currently in more danger of fascism than it was back then. Silver legion didn't even reach 6 digits in its membership, and the Black Legion didn't do anything.
Compare that to the several million people currently alive who actively seem to think that Trump is literally a messenger from heaven and can literally do no wrong, as well as a government ruled in all branches of government by the party that seems to share in this belief. Plus Trump sure as shit seems to be a bigger fan of fascists than Roosevelt or his contemporaries were.
People crying about "the tyranny of the majority" actually mean "I don't like democracy". Democracy literally means "rule by people" and power to majority votes of the people.
Not to mention, think how much worse it will be when Climate Change truly kicks in and we have even larger refugee crises that make the Syrian Civil War's refugee crisis look like a drop of water in a bucket.
If people are turning to ethnonationalism and idolizing a sleazy 2000's game show host/con artist this much because of - in part - events caused by a relatively small refugee crisis, then imagine how much worse things will get when somebody smarter was taking notes and the political tensions actually do get legitimately bad (instead of just a presidential candidate straw-manning all Mexicans as rapists).
Take note, people with no morals or ethics whatsoever. Now is a good time to invest in conservative movements and get yourself some political clout. You'll be unstoppable in like 10 years.
Make it a crime to not cry at the sight of a calendar.
Nothing is going to change because people don't know when to stop witch hunting, making accusations without any evidence and name calling. Hard to be on a side that sound like a bunch of crazy conspiracy nuts.
People should have focused on all his horrible policies instead of trying to focus on accusations that happen over 30 years ago. Now this guys probably going to vote even harder right because of the way he was voted in.
Then why not voluntarily allow an FBI investigation to clear your name?
* An FBI Investigation, of course, that is not a dog and pony show where the FBI is handcuffed by the White House, who has partisan interests in getting Kavanaugh put onto SCOTUS.
Ultimately whether Ford was telling the truth or not doesn't matter after the actual senate hearing. Just the way he talked there should be an instant unilateral ban from serving any position of adjudication.
There's a quote from a judge I really like about what it takes to be one:
To be a good judge and a good umpire, it’s important to have the proper demeanor. Really important, I think. To walk in the others’ shoes, whether it be the other litigants, the litigants in the case,
the other judges. To understand them. To keep our emotions in check. To be calm amidst the storm. On the bench, to put it in the vernacular, don’t be a jerk. I think that’s important.
To be a good umpire and a good judge, don’t be a jerk. In your opinions, to demonstrate civility—I think that’s important as well. To show, to help display, that you are trying to make the decision
impartially and dispassionately based on the law and not based on your emotions. That we’re not the bigger than the game…
There’s a danger of arrogance, as for umpires and referees, but also for judges.
And I would say that danger grows the more time you’re on the bench. As one of my colleagues puts it, you become more like yourself—and that can be a problem.
Plot twist, Kavanaugh said all that that.
I don't know if you've been paying attention but the thing people are focusing on is his garbage temperament and blatant political bias, not whether or not the accusations were true.
You do know any lawyer with half a brain sell would advise their client against having a FBI investigation done even if they were innocent right?
I just want the world to improve somewhat before climate change sets in
IANAL, could you tell me why?
I'm sure things will to some decent extent after Trump, but don't expect them to stay improved once the refugee crises and other consequences of Climate Change kick in. :/
But this is why GOP keep winning. Instead of running on "vote for us because we're good", they say "vote for us because we're not them".
I get that it's extremely fucking easy to be pessimistic about the whole situation, but I don't think it's super helpful. It'd be better to have a mindset that's a mix of realism and some optimism, aka realizing that it's a very shitty situation, but also not giving up hope and trying to find a way to combat this sort of thing, even though it'll likely be an uphill battle.
My older brother recommended me a podcast called The Wilderness, which was being ran by one of Obama's speech writers. I haven't really looked into it yet and I don't know exactly what it's like, but he says that the podcast deals with that sort of thing plus how the Democratic party should be handled.
Their donors will not allow them to have positions good enough to win votes, like labor rights and whatnot
Oh no I'm not saying you shouldn't try. Everyone should vote. Democracy sucks but it's the best we have, in broad terms.
I was objecting more to the idea that he seemed to be pushing of there being some kinds of failsafe measures or something like that.
Running to impeach a insanely unpopular justice appointed by a extremely unpopular president is perfectly fine idea
it can't be the only thing they're running on of course.
Jesus Christ, don't go to their website unless you have a few pairs of sunglasses on standby. Whoever thought making the background of their website bright, fluorescent yellow is a madman.
but also more importantly, democrats are right to question his political bias.
Currently happening at the Supreme Court right now

Ya know, I think this is a point that can genuinely be brought up to both sides without being an enlightened centrist level argument.
The idea of learned behavior vs representing your constituents. The Dems haven't exactly been a particularly useful party in a lot of ways recently, what with their corporate learned behaviors. But we actually see some progressive and promising young candidates that are making waves, represent the will of the people and can change the face of what the party is.
The difference is, on the Repub side, they are using propaganda and bullying tactics basically, to do it the other way around. Standing behind worse and worse people that accept the learned behavior and manipulating the will of the people to try and change to them instead.
Understanding what your people want and (hopefully) changing to accept that, vs. staying the same, or even getting worse and manipulating people to think that's what they want so you don't need to alter anything.
Welcome to a world where the major push for interacting with humans is gameification of systems that worked fine.
Enjoy the American Skinner Box.
So essentially Traditionalism vs Progressivism?
Yeah actually, but mixed with an overbearing influence of MONEY that unbalances how that would generally operate. Turns it from a differing path to arrive at more or less the same location to a tug of war over if that location is gonna make them enough money quickly.
I think the main reason an attorney would advise against it would be just because you have nothing to hide deosn't mean there isn't anything you want to share. Not to mention having to deal with the investigation it self.
