I mean when people are out there LITERALLY arguing whether or not your existence is based in reality and should you and your health issues even be considered issues and also allow people to discriminate against you based on these very things that they're saying doesn't fucking exist then yeah I'm sure a lot of people are going to give a shit about LGBT issues a lot fucking more than the prison system or how capitalism is destroying the earth because you know their lives could be on the line.
These things affect people DIRECTLY whereas the prison system, homelessness even the economy doesn't directly impact people to the extent that being denied the right to exist and express yourself in a harmless way does.
Sorry if this comes across as aggressive or even incoherent but Its fucking terrifying to be watching the so called land of the Free, becoming a totalitarian state that's having such a large impact on the world that the same rhetoric is being propped up in my own country and actually seems to be able to take grasp of people.
I swear this shit his been exacerbated by the TERF movement, taking people on the fringe of the left, giving them misinformation and using them as the tipping factor in a right-winged propaganda war against everything that isn't right winged.
Being trans is fucking difficult as it is, without having to wake up to news like this every fucking day
You know what the difference between LGBTQ+ rights and so many other political issues are? Everything from the economy to tackling the drug epidemic to homelessness to gun laws, and so on, can be reasonably debated to some extent, especially in regards to what the best policy is. There is no such reasonable disagreement to be had regarding LGBTQ+ rights. If you do not support LGBTQ+ people having the same rights as everyone else, and approve of politicians who promise to strip those rights away and treat LGBTQ+ as subhuman, you are a terrible person. End. Of. Story. So a politican's position on whether they support LGBTQ+ rights is absolutely essential in regards to discerning whether they are a good person or complete scum. Not because supporting them guarantees that they are a good person (it doesn't) - but because opposing them guarantees that they are scum. This is why the Democrats are making such a big deal about it. They are drawing a line in the sand between them and the Republicans, making it known that regardless of whether or not people agree with every single individual Democratic politician or policy, they are at the very least not wholly scum like every single Republican who supports this proposed policy.
how many times does it have to be explained that they said it was "a top priority", not "the only priority"
You can work on multiple fronts at once, you know. Nothing is stopping politicians from signing bills on, gasp, different issues!
You mean like what you're doing? Feigning "prisoner rights are the most important thing! I care about LGBT, I very much do, oh yes I do, but they should stop trying to get rights until we solve... let's see, prisoner rights, which I also care about so much!"
Bull
fucking
shit.
And again
politicians can stand for multiple issues
and democrats
the ones fighting for lgbt rights
are also the ones fighting for prison reform
It's amazing how you take that statement as a literal fact, as if there's a literal simple list
