• US Elections 2018: Democrats take House, Republicans keep Senate,

It's so frustrating in a way how deeply involved you are with American politics despite not living here when some of our own people can't even be bothered to go vote =/
The house can bring charges against the president by majority vote but the senate requires more than that to convict (I think 2/3rds). The house can subpoena the whitehouse for documents, transcripts, emails, etc. in any investigation they want and the president has to comply. Remember that Richard Nixon was not impeached or removed from office; he left office after the scandal became about whether or not the president has to respond to a congressional subpoena/about whether or not he obstructed justice by destroying evidence. The political pressure can be enough to get a president to resign without being formally convicted. Additionally, I think that Trump would perjur himself in 30 seconds if he was called to testify before congress
Oh so you're probably not too far away, I'm in D20.
Our main anglosphere ally is potentially sliding into fascism. That has repercussions and lessons to take away for us. Sometimes it's easier to analyse things from the outside and inspect the intricate mechanical parts without being ground up by them.
I dare say politics in the United States is far more important to me than in Australia, because it's the most powerful nation on earth and has a ridiculous amount of influence over it's allies and the west generally. We all need the US to get out of this dark place right now.
What % did they win by?
Looks like this'll be the map for future elections in 2020+ https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/134246/3e3a621c-65e0-4962-8a37-7cea6da0ef2b/image.png
https://ballotpedia.org/Fargo,_North_Dakota,_Measure_1,_Approval_Voting_Initiative_(November_2018) So a local city has approved the approval voting system by 61%. I see results, And Republican women won 49.3% while Democratic women got 48.42 and Green women got 2.2% which is expected anyway from me by tolding you so that some them voted early already and refused given up their political beliefs.
https://twitter.com/bpicampus/status/1060090752204767232 Florida Amendment 4 can possibly just be ignored.

I was under the impression it was automatically restored? No act of state house would be necessary?

I don't think it will go down without a fight. There's too much at stake for this not to be a major talking point for the next two years.

The text of it is: This amendment restores the voting rights of Floridians with felony convictions after they complete all terms of their sentence including parole or probation. The amendment would not apply to those convicted of murder or sexual offenses, who would continue to be permanently barred from voting unless the Governor and Cabinet vote to restore their voting rights on a case by case basis. And Republicans sure love loopholes, there's technically nothing in it specifying what agency or group gives them their voting rights back, like the Board of Clemency
GA still counting absentee & provisional ballots. Its still close as hell (please please Abrams please): Abrams, Kemp await more ballots in Georgia governor's race
I'm more shocked by the fact that felons lose their voting rights to begin with. I wasn't aware it was even a thing until recently.
Who will the new house speakers and committee chairs be?
Man, /pol/ is going through some sort of weird 'this was meant to happen' moment and its hilarious to watch them shiver, shake and undulate like a pulsating form of pustules unsure of whether or not they should burst so half have and other half have shriveled.
Speaker: Nancy Pelosi, for a year or so Majority whip: Steny Hoyer Financial services: Maxine Waters Judiciary: Jerrold Nadler Intel: Adam Schiff Ways and Means: Richard Neal Appropriations: Nita Lowey
Kemp brazenly steals an election and will probably get away with it. Great democracy we have here.
There is no law forbidding stealing an election
Right, but the lack of agency means that the literal words on the page restore the rights. Even if the board of clemency was the agency, they would never even attempt to individually restore the voting rights. Christ, if Republicans really hamstring this amendment, they literally do not care about the will of the people.
I know the Democratic plan is the restore the VRA's original wording with court approved additions as well as mandate that all state redistricting is done by 3rd party groups to ensure fairness. That's their big bill they really wanna put through and the Republicans, who will go against it, will look like massive douchebags.
If the results are 15 minutes late, you're legally allowed to declare victory
the five second rule, guys.

na they've learned, they'll just fed-ex their displeasure.
It's sad that these are the choices
the redistricting committee will have 5 republicans and 2 democrats with a republican governor signing off. If the legislature fails to get a bipartisan map twice they get to just pass anything and it stands for 4 years. then I guess the next gerrymandered legislature comes in gives up and does it all over again. it was written by the gop to save their ass from actual redistricting reform
