Trump's probably going to nominate Kris Kobach as the full Attorney General.
Watching CNN live, apparently Rudy Giuliani just said to one of their reporters re Trump shutting down the Mueller probe: "It's gone on this long, can't imagine he would end it now"
She notes that that doesn't rule out shaping/obstructing the probe
Mueller seems like the kinda man to have contingency plans to his contingency plans.
He's been considering it for a long time, but voices in his administration have been discouraging him from doing it. Now there are reports that Mueller is ready to disclose his findings and handling sealed indictments, and it's rumored that Trump Jr. is one of them. The heat is getting close and I think it's making him nervous, once he starts feeling trapped he'll ignore the naysayers and try to shut down the investigation.

Mueller is coming
Mueller's investigation is still pretty popular. At the very least his firing would have pushed opposition turnout. If he did this two days ago or possibly even sooner, we could be looking at an even bluer outcome.
You know what, normally I have patience for this kind of bullshit. But not today.
Your apathy and defeatism are pathetic. Please grow up and realize that the very reason we ended up in this crisis, and the reason it has been so difficult to recover from it, is that millions of people have given up on the political process and convinced themselves that nothing can change. Politics is corrupt, our leaders are corrupt, everything sucks, so why bother trying to fix it? It's a cynical lie that only justifies your own laziness and lack of patriotism, and it opens the door to demagogues who offer fake or simplified solutions to complicated problems that most people don't feel like solving.
If you want run away from this crisis, be my guest. No one can force you to be a patriot. Not one can force you to conduct yourself with maturity. But don't force your laziness on the rest of us. The people who have already decided to be part of the solution don't have time for your cynical shit.

“So I could see a scenario where Jeff Sessions is replaced with a recess appointment, and that attorney general doesn’t fire Bob Mueller, but he just reduces his budget to so low that his investigation grinds to almost a halt.” - Matthew Whitaker
You always toss in a placeholder when someone is fired in such a high position. There's a line of succession until a real successor is picked.
Whatever happened to that Kislyak guy Sessions met with
Right so this is a nuclear alert
Oh damn, I was just starting to relax and now shit's going to get real.
Per the Supreme Court "the Senate is in session when it says it is" so if just Schumer and McConnell are there the Senate is technically in session and Trump can't make a recess appointment.
I'm sure Mueller treats Trump as a wildcard and has been planning from the start that Sessions might one day just be gone for a variety of reasons.
Wait, the guy who defended a case so badly that the judge ordered him to take remedial law classes? That guy?
Sessions himself is not a defend-at-all-costs. It's a sign that we should be getting ready to fight, but not a "start the revolution now" call to arms.
The orange said he wanted him in his admin if he lost the governor's election.
Where were you when Trump did the Wednesday Afternoon Massacre?
Midterms Massacre
So where do we stand and what should we possibly be doing?
Looks like the replacement guy is there just to fire Müller
Democrats need to go full scorched earth and subpoena everyone in the White House and the Trump organization.
We wait and see what happens with Rosenstein today. We listen for and prepare to hear about obstruction in the ways of reducing the budget to zero or neutering the investigation or demanding it wrap up immediately or be closed down. Then if those things happen: we mobilize.
