Wait hold up I thought the red line was Rosenstein or Mueller, not Sessions
see ya sessions, ya stupid bastard
Normally the Deputy AG becomes the AG in the event of the AG being fired - he would then retain his control over the Mueller probe. Instead, Trump has bypassed this and appointed his own Acting AG (who potentially isn't even qualified for the position). He is handing that AAG the Mueller Investigation reigns. So Rosenstein is not fired -- but he has been kicked off the investigation where a Trump loyalist has now been put in charge of it. It's tantamount to firing Rosenstein for the purpose of ensuring the Mueller investigation gets misled or shut down.

Well, isn't the reason that Rosenstein was in charge because the actual AG was recused? That would mean that now that there's a new AG, who is not recused, Rosenstein will no longer be in charge of the investigation, and will have been replaced. That is directly stated as one of the conditions to trigger the rapid response, as smurfy mentioned in another thread. Actions that would prevent the investigation from being conducted freely, such as replacing Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, Mueller’s current supervisor, or repealing the regulations establishing the office
The thing is it hasn't even been a day so we don't even know if he's going to be recused or not. Granted, if by tomorrow nothing has been said- then yeah, start protesting.
My understanding of that point is that the normal (legal?) procedure is for the Deputy AG to take the place if the AG resigns. The fact that Trump has just simply not done that and instead put in a random henchman, pretty clearly shows that Rosenstein is intentionally being replaced. And also, there's this: a Fox News legal analyst is saying Trump violated the law by appointing Whitaker.
Not if the new acting AG is actually not qualified to be appointed by Trump. And it sounds like that's the case since even Fox has come out and said Trump broke the law here. If that's the case then Rosenstein would be the acting AG until a valid acting AG is appointed or a replacement is approved by Congress.
But that's *if* Whitaker doesn't recuse himself, much less if he's even legally permitted to take the position, no? It just feels like we're jumping the gun on this. Before we march, we should call for Whitaker's appointment to be rejected, or failing that, that he recuses himself. We shouldn't jump right into protesting without exhausting the other options. We may only get one good shot at an effective protest, lest we look like we're crying wolf.
That only matters if the Senate cares. The Senate doesn't care. The Senate appointed Kavanaugh despite his statements which should've had him removed from his Federal Judge seat - not even considering whether or not he got a SCOTUS seat.
I think their logic is for all they know this may be the last and only chance to protest. Who knows what orange man may attempt tomorrow or the day after. Firing Sessions could be the first in a series of bold moves threatening the investigation, or it could go out with a whimper. Slowly, with no big headlines. It just gets slowly defunded by Republican lawmakers and it all goes on before anyone can protest because it doesn't seem like the red line has been crossed. Nothing big enough to march en masse. Facism is most dangerous when it doesn't look like a big deal. If anything is clearly protest-worthy to the public, it's this. Besides, as smurfy pointed out, Rosenstein isn't in charge anymore. If anything happens it could be with or without him.

Mueller's shaking in rage.
I wish I could protest, but I have work. I can't afford to be unemployed, i.e. I can't afford to protest.
How can someone who was illegally appointed even start doing stuff? He's gonna ruin everything.
Call in sick.
I'm not allowed to, it's "busy season"
Call in with explosive diarrhea.
They need a reason too. Weather it's for their own careers, the future of their party, or fear of death.
'The Democrats are running a false and fradulent investigation. It's time for the investigation to be handled by someone who's willing to actually let the probe end when it's done rather than someone willing to let it run forever'.
I'll be there in spirit
Unless you're an anime protagonist that can separate their spirit from their body that doesn't really increase the turnout much though. You know what you can do? Call up your co-workers and see if any of them have the day off. If they do, get them to go in your stead. Promise like a box of donuts or something in exchange.
No one is allowed to take off during busy season
Cool. Call your friends up instead then. You know your life situation more than me. I bet you can do more than just 'being there in spirit'. I encourage you to commit to it if you're going to commit to it, even if you can't be physically present yourself.
"Justice Department employees were not officially notified of Sessions' ouster nor of Whitaker's appointment before the President's tweet and media reports announced the news, sources within the department say. "
This means that Rod Rosenstein is no longer relevant. Mueller, if he makes a report, will have to report directly to this guy, or whoever is appointed formally as a permanent replacement. I hope Mueller's team finds a way to legally make their findings public, through the House.
it's alright guys, I got a leaked picture of the Rosenstein replacement, a truly country before party man https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/tropico/images/3/34/Penultimo.png/revision/latest?cb=20120129223208
Anything a congressman says is put into record and is protected by law. They could even speak out nuclear launch codes and have them in the record if they finished them before being tackled.
